Thrift Store shoppingOne of the many, many great things about thrift shopping is you can try out new trends or looks you would normally stray away from. It makes you a bit more adventurous because you're not really investing in a style. If you try it and don't like it, no big deal. And that's exactly what I did earlier this year when I bought a pair of lace shorts while thrift shopping in San Francisco at Buffalo Exchange.

I love anything with lace, so I snatched the shorts up quickly. I posted a photo on Facebook of my new thrift store score and someone asked, "so how are you going to wear them?" That's when I asked myself, oh shoot, how am I going to wear them! I feared the lace bottoms would look a bit childish, kinda Little Bo Peep-ish.But when I'm faced with a tricky garment, my motto is: keep it simple and let the accessories do the work. So that's what I did.

thrifty threads 365 challenge, shopping challengeAnother month down, so it's time to recap my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge {a full year where I only thrift shop for clothes and accessories, no new items}. For May I completely went over my budget because I was thrift shopping in San Francisco. So I was determined to keep my $50 limit in check for the month of June...and I did.

I almost made it through the entire month without buying anything but I did a brief interview and photo shoot for USA Today at the Salvation Army and I couldn't leave without buying something.

Another month down so you know what that means: time for my monthly Thrifty Threads 365 check in.

For the month of April I only spent $40 out of my $50 budget. Well, I can't say I faired so well for May but let me explain. I visited San Francisco for the first time last month and I hit up about half a dozen thrift stores {check out my San Francisco thrift shopping posts here and here}, so my $50 monthly budget quickly went out the window. Well, let me stop delaying and just reveal it.

I rarely wear flats. I actually feel naked without a heel and I know a lot of petite ladies who feel the same, but sometimes you find a flat shoe or boot that's so amazing, you don't care if it doesn't add a few inches to your height. And sometimes your feet just need a break! Well, that's exactly what happened when I found a pair of zig zag flat boots at the Salvation Army a few weeks ago. The design was so fly, I couldn't pass them up.The weather in NYC has been a bit mild lately and there's nothing I love more than throwing on a pair of comfy shoes, fitted jeans and a jacket for a day of thrifting, brunch or hanging with friends. But of course an outfit doesn't have to be boring simply because it's casual.

Thrifty Threads 365, looking fly on a dime

Another month gone and another month that I can only thrift shop and spend a max of $50 on secondhand clothes and accessories. My Thrifty Threads 365 challenge is at the five month mark and for February, I stuck to my budget. Yay for me, since last month I went over budget by $23.I haven't had too much time to shop but over the past two weeks I snagged a few goodies and I have to say I absolutely love everything I purchased. Since I can only spend $50, that forces me to only buy things I would regret leaving at the store. Fun, statement pieces that help elevate my wardrobe.I'm a serious heels and stiletto lover but I've been on the hunt for a pair of flat boots and luckily I found them at the Salvation Army {46th St. between 10th and 11th in NYC}. These zig zag boots are just everything to me and the $10 price tag made me do a happy dance.
