Winter's finally arrived and it's absolutely freezing on the East Coast. Besides being uncomfortable, the colder temps can make dressing a bit tricky, especially if you want to dress up for a night out...and you're relying on public transportation. Last weekend I attended a post-wedding toast for some colleagues and I was determined not to let the weather cramp my style.
January 1 didn't just mark the start of the new year but also the three month mark of my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge {a full year where I only purchase thrifted clothing, no new clothes or accessories}. In October I spent $48, $25 in November and for December...I only spent $10! Yup, just $10. I've been so busy that I haven't had time to thrift. I planned on going to one of the Housing Works Buy the Bag sales but that didn't happen.However, all winter I've been on the hunt for some high heel boots. I didn't have much time to shop so I ventured to East 23rd Street {between 2nd and 3rd Avenues} where there are multiple thrift stores on the same block so if it was a bust a one store, I could quickly move on to the next. 
Two weeks ago I filmed my third appearance for The Nate Berkus Show and I can now announce the show airs on Tuesday, December 20. Like my past segments, I'm focusing on thrift shopping. This time around I gave holiday makeovers to two women using completely thrifted looks. And as usual I had a great time.I can't reveal everything {you've got to tune in on Tuesday}, but check out some pics and behind the scenes info below.I had my girl Danielle, aka The Style & Beauty Doctor, on hand as moral support and she even taped me in my dress. Seriously, she was double-stick taping me in my dress minutes before I went on. Ah, that's what friends are for!
Last month I told you guys how month one of my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge went {I only spent $48 for the month of October} and I spent even less for November. I haven't really had time to go thrift shopping but I did hit up Target. I know you're thinking, "but wait, I thought you're not buying any new clothing for a year?" True, but I am allowed to buy undergarments.One of the quickest ways to update your wardrobe is with a pair of tights so I bought a few pairs from Target. I already have basic black but I wanted different colors and patterns to really make my outfits pop. And at only $5-$7 each, the price was right. 
Fall can be a tricky time to dress. Or at least it has been as of lately. One day it's a brisk 45 degrees and you're bundled up and the next it's in the low 60s and you only have to step out of the house wearing a blazer. And this week has been no different.
