Looking Fly on a Dime thrift shoppingA few months ago I was shopping at Housing Works Buy the Bag {$25/bag of clothes} and the trip seemed like a bit of a bust. I went with my girl because they were offering a 2 for 1 deal during the summer. It went like this: bring a friend and one of you gets a free bag. We split the cost so our individual bags were just $12.50 each!
After shopping for 30 minutes, I found a few items, but nothing really wowed me. That was until I dug through a bin and found a pair of oxblood booties. I thought they were cute and the heel was a manageable height versus my normal 5 inchers. Oh, and then I looked inside the shoes and realized they were Balenciaga!!!
I stuffed about 25 or 26 items in my bag, so 25 items for $12.50 equaled 50 cents per piece. So I paid less than $1 for vintage Balenciaga.

lauren conrad dress, a-line dress

I know some people who wear vintage from head to toe. There's nothing wrong with that, but I love mixing a touch of vintage with contemporary threads. And that's exactly what I did last weekend. I've become kinda obsessed with Kohl's since I used a pair of their brocade shorts for my last Today Show appearance. And in particular, I've become a fan of the LC Lauren Conrad line. From the jeans to the tops and especially the dresses, the pieces are flirty, sweet and super feminine. So I was excited when I was sent this Lauren Conrad for Kohl's dress. It's A-line {a flattering shape for all sizes} and has adorable cut outs at the top.

vintage purses, vintage handbag

A few weeks ago was my last thrift shopping tour at the Goodwill Outlet and surprisingly, I walked away with just as many accessories as clothes. These weren't just any accessories, but there were a few vintage gems. And at $1.69 per pound, they were serious scores.I only found a handful of cute clothes, but it turns out the accessories were more valuable {when it comes to styling}.

Essence Music Festival fashion event

Yesterday I gave you the inside dish on the vintage dress I wore to my Best Dressed Madame soiree while I was at Essence Music Festival in New Orleans and now it's time for the event recap. The night was full of fun, giveaways and some amazing costumes. Hosted at May Baily's Bar at the Dauphine Hotel, we took a cue from the past to come up with some cheeky games. The bar used to be a brothel {they still have a red light on outside!} so we asked ladies to come dressed up in feathers, boas, glam gowns or anything that made them feel sexy.

Though most of my wardrobe is secondhand, I love adding in a few new pieces. So when the folks over a ModDeals, a new affordable online store for clothes and accessories, contacted me, I was anxious to see what their pieces looked and felt like. I'm all about affordability but quality always reigns supreme.I ordered a few pieces using the $40 gift card they provided and was so glad I did so. From jeans to dresses to shoes, everything on the ModDeals' site is less than $15 and I've worn the clothes for over a month now and I love the quality.I'm all about fun, flirty dresses, so naturally I ordered the Coco Love Voile Dress, which has a pussy bow and pleats. Just my style! Though I love dresses, sometimes they feel a bit too dressy, especially when I'm not doing anything all that fancy.
