DSC_0599I can't wait for spring to arrive on Wednesday. Seriously, I'm over the cold NYC weather. Though some people tend to wear more drab colors in the fall and winter, I'm all about wearing my brightest threads any time of the year. And I think I actually wear even bolder tones during colder months just to perk my mood up.This past weekend, I threw on a ton of blue, red, pink and colors in between for a fun look. My vintage Mickey sweatshirt and Laundry by Shelli Segal trench are both from Housing Works Buy the Bag at just $1 each.Check out this week's Thrifty Threads. And I'll even show you how to give your classic trench coat a little update.

What I wore to fashion week, Loehmann's
I had a general idea of what I would wear during Fashion Week. When I know I have a lot of running around to do and when the temps are in the teens, I usually stick with my trusty skinny jeans and a few statement pieces. So I went for a mixture of new threads {studded top and neon and animal print shoes} from Loehmann's and some thrifted add-ons, like my Hudson jeans from the Housing Works Buy the Bag sale and vintage clip-on earrings.
But then the dilemma moved to what to wear over my outfit? A blah coat can totally ruin any look, but I knew exactly what I could rock for a standout style.

I'm having a love affair with sweatshirts {see my last Thrifty Threads: Sweatshirt Chic post}. This is pretty strange for me because I normally think of sweatshirts as being frumpy and sloppy. But I've seen the error of my ways.
So when I came across a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt at the press preview for the Housing Works Buy the Bag shop in Brooklyn, I knew I had to have it. And when I looked at the label, I realized it was vintage! Not bad seeing as how it cost about $1 {a bag full of clothing is just 25 bucks and I was able to stuff about 20 pieces in a singel bag}.

As much as I love to dress up, I hate to admit that leggings are my go-to threads when I'm having a casual day. From black to brown to lime green, I have them in every color. They're ultra comfy and pair well with a chunky sweater or layered shirts.
But leggings can also be kind of blah and boring. Or at least that's what I thought until I came across a pair of Union Jack leggings.
It was love at first sight when I saw them online at Delia's.

new buy the bag location, Buy the Bag brooklyn
Last week I told you about the new Housing Works Buy the Bag location. The thrift store used to offer select dates for this awesome sale {$25 for a bag full of clothing}, but now they have a stand alone location that's open five days a week. Needless to say I was super excited to hear this sale is now being offered year round and throughout the week.
I went to the press preview and the space is definitely different from the warehouse feel of the previous setting. A new layout and even new bags means your strategy has to change a bit.
