Thrifty Threads: Vintage Mickey Mouse & Sequins

I’m having a love affair with sweatshirts {see my last Thrifty Threads: Sweatshirt Chic post}. This is pretty strange for me because I normally think of sweatshirts as being frumpy and sloppy. But I’ve seen the error of my ways.
So when I came across a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt at the press preview for the Housing Works Buy the Bag shop in Brooklyn, I knew I had to have it. And when I looked at the label, I realized it was vintage! Not bad seeing as how it cost about $1 {a bag full of clothing is just 25 bucks and I was able to stuff about 20 pieces in a singel bag}.
When a garment is super casual, I love dressing it up in an unexpected way. I decided to pair Mickey with a sequin and tulle dress from TJ Maxx.
The frock is so typical of my style {i.e. super girly}, but I wanted to switch it up a bit with the addition of the sweatshirt and some other thrifted threads.
My accessories were limited to a beanie and purse {both thrifted}, bangles from my Swap Your Closet event, oversized hoops, a chunky men’s watch and Target stilettos my cousin gave me.
One of the great things about thrifting is that it helps you become a bit more adventurous with your style. Would I normally wear a sweatshirt? No. But because it was so cheap at a secondhand store, I decided to give one a shot and I’m so glad I did.
Also, if you have a holiday dress you want to continue wearing throughout the season, consider dressing it down with a casual sweatshirt or even a cardigan.

So cute, I love the whole look. I wouldn’t think to pair the 2 but it works!
