closet revamp, looking fly on a dimeSix denim shirts. 12 blazers. 20 pairs of jeans. These were some of the clothes I pulled out of my closet last weekend. Needless to say, I don't need six denim shirts, 12 blazers or 20 pairs of jeans. I realized I was suffering from a pretty common dilemma: an overstuffed closet where I buy the same items multiple times because I didn't realize I already owned them.
Sigh.
With fall unofficially here and officially arriving in a few weeks, I took two hours this weekend to get my closet together. And luckily, there were only two major steps involved. Not only will this revamped closet make it easier to get dressed, it also benefits the wallet. When your closet is clutter free, you know what you have, which means you won't spend money buying duplicates.

how to thrift shop, looking fly on a dime
We've already established that a big part of thrift shopping involves patience {countless Thriftspiration ladies say patience is the number one thrift shopping tip}. You have to have time and energy to dig through bins and inspect numerous racks. But there's something even bigger involved in thrifting. When you're lucky enough to find an item, the next major step is how to wear and style it. This is where the importance of what you do in the fitting room comes in to play. You may be leaving behind some serious fashion gems because you're not sure how to incorporate them in your closet.
I can't tell you how many times I've pulled a questionable item off the racks, but once I take it in the fitting room, the script can be flipped and it becomes a fashion must have!

Oh, and the brand just received a major stamp of approval when Beyonce wore their $25 "Name Brand" crop top.

lauren conrad dress, a-line dress

I know some people who wear vintage from head to toe. There's nothing wrong with that, but I love mixing a touch of vintage with contemporary threads. And that's exactly what I did last weekend. I've become kinda obsessed with Kohl's since I used a pair of their brocade shorts for my last Today Show appearance. And in particular, I've become a fan of the LC Lauren Conrad line. From the jeans to the tops and especially the dresses, the pieces are flirty, sweet and super feminine. So I was excited when I was sent this Lauren Conrad for Kohl's dress. It's A-line {a flattering shape for all sizes} and has adorable cut outs at the top.

vintage purses, vintage handbag

A few weeks ago was my last thrift shopping tour at the Goodwill Outlet and surprisingly, I walked away with just as many accessories as clothes. These weren't just any accessories, but there were a few vintage gems. And at $1.69 per pound, they were serious scores.I only found a handful of cute clothes, but it turns out the accessories were more valuable {when it comes to styling}.
