Remember when I mentioned I’d be bringing back the Thriftspiration feature where I highlight the style of thrift and vintage lovers? Well, it’s here! And it only made sense to start with a bang.

I love Chrisette Michele’s music and the singer is also a pro thrifter. She recently shared a video on her site, Rich Hipster, of her getting into a little vintage shopping while in Florida. She scored a ton of affordable pieces at an indie vintage shop and even shows how she styled them.

Check out the short videos below for Chrisette Michele’s thrift shop adventure and vintage styling advice

While in Tallahassee, Florida, Chrisette hit up Avant Garb Boutique. In the video she said the pieces were affordable and would have normally cost at least $100 if they were purchased in NYC. I love that she mentions this because it echoes a point I made in my book, Looking Fly on a Dime: How to Find Fabulous Fashion at Any Thrift Shop & Make the Cheap Look Chic. Smaller shops and towns are the place for affordable thrift store scores!

The thrift shop fun doesn’t stop there. In a followup video, Chrisette shows three ways she styled her vintage pieces. Remember that emerald green oversized blazer? She effortlessly made it work in a contemporary way.

I love when a celebrity who can purchase higher end pieces chooses to shop vintage and thrift for an individual sense of style.

Have you ever gone to a thrift shop in a smaller city? What are the pros and cons of thrifting in smaller towns?

***If you’re in NYC, I’d love for you to come out for my Ready, Set, Thrift! event this Saturday. We’ll have drinks, light bites, gift bags and clothes are just $25 for an entire bag! Get your tickets here.
