Sweatshirts are all the rage. Last year I showed you how I wore my favorite vintage Mickey Mouse shirt and now, we’re seeing more and more of the casual tops everywhere. They’re no longer just the sweaty shirt you wore to workout or on a lazy afternoon. Now, the sweatshirt has been remixed in a fun, flirty and even chic way.

Rocking a sweatshirt is as easy as 1, 2, 3 and the look I styled below can work from the office to happy hour.

I started with an Apt. 9 sweatshirt that has a nice texture to it. There are no real rules to wearing one, but just be sure the fit of the shirt has a little wiggle room. Anything too big will look sloppy and one that’s too tight will just look constricting.

1. Start with a Bold Base

We all have what I like to call a “base.” Those are the pants, jeans, shoes, etc. that are your go to garments and they have a bit of flare to them {bright color, pattern, etc.}. For me, my current base is a pair of Rock & Republic Kashmiere skinny jeans and floral Elle pumps. You want to go a little bold since some sweatshirts can look kinda blah. The more boring a shirt is, the more license you have to really have fun with the other items.

2. Layer

Sure, you can just wear the sweatshirt on its own or enjoy some layering. This isn’t just for aesthetics, but since fall is here, the extra layer will provide some warmth. I love this Elle embellished ruffle shirt for the jeweled collar. It makes a statement and the built in detail means I don’t have to worry about adding a necklace.

3. Finishing Touches

You can’t forget a few accessories. I opted for dainty rings, including this LC Lauren Conrad two finger ring, that pack a punch. But you can certainly throw on a few thin bangles or a chunky, printed one.

When you put it all together, you’re left with a look that can go from a casual day at the office to a night on the town.
