3 Fall Style Essentials You Can Find at Any Thrift Shop

Thrifty Threads 365 is a fashion challenge where I will only thrift shop for an entire year. I’ll show you how it’s easy and wallet friendly to satisfy your style needs with secondhand finds. For full details, check the original post here.
Fall doesn’t officially arrive for a few days, but it’s time to start gearing up for chilly days and brisk nights. Yesterday we showed you how to effortlessly transition your wardrobe, but today it’s all about a few additions you need in your closet. And of course, you don’t have to spend a ton.
These are three fall style staples you can find at your local thrift shop. They’re fashionable, functional and easy on the wallet.

Chunky Sweaters or Cardigans
Look, besides a snug pair of skinny jeans or a flirty dress, one of my favorite garments is a chunky sweater. It’s also a must have fall fashion item. Layer one over your summer tank or sleeveless blouse and you’re ready for the new season. Oversized sweaters are in abundance at thrift shops. Of course you can find them in the women’s section, but check the men’s department as well. The fit will be oversized, but that’s perfect when paired with skinny jeans or a pencil skirt.
Flat Boots
I’m a heels girl, but I love slipping into a good pair of flat boots. I’ve come across a ton of boots at most thrift shops I visit. Some are on the weird/fugly side, while others have bold designs that make a major statement. I fell head over heels for these vintage zigzag boots. They were less than 10 bucks! Check the shoe aisles of your thrift shop for boots that combine fashion and function for fall and winter.
Bold Outerwear

Maybe you need a fall jacket or a heavier fall/winter coat. You can find a ton at your local thrift shop. Every season I look forward to the Salvation Army coat sale in New York. The sale features everything from leathers, fur, trenches, parkas and anything in between. I once walked away with a DSquared parka for $2 and the LOFT faux fur collar coat {above} received serious wear until I donated it back to the thrift store. Even if your town doesn’t have a coat sale, you can find a few colorful, warm options for a fraction of the original cost. If you’re in NYC, the first Salvation Army coat sale of this season is Saturday, October 4.
Are there any fall trends you’ve scored from the thrift shop? What fall pieces do you always seem to find at the thrift store?
