Why I Prefer Forever 21 Jeans Over Designer Denim

I’m a little more than half way through my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge and people always ask if I miss shopping for brand new clothes. And I usually say no. Thrift stores have provided me with every item, whether it’s trendy or classic, that I need. But there are some things I’ve been missing: Forever 21 jeans. I can walk past Macy’s, H&M or any boutique with no problem, but Forever 21 tempts me every time. Let me explain…

As much as I love a flirty dress, I adore skinny jeans, especially black ones. They’re a simple canvas you can dress up or down in minutes. And since I love jeans so much, I’ve worn them in a ton of brands, from Seven to Citizens of Humanity to Joe’s and more. But I find they all share the same characteristic: the dreaded crotch rip. You know what I’m talking about. It’s when your jeans start to rip and get frayed from the friction of your thighs.

Well, the one pair of jeans that have never given me the crotch rip are from Forever 21. About three years ago I made my first ever F21 purchase: a pair of black and off black skinny jeans. I’ve worn these jeans at least once a week. They totaled less than $30 so my cost per wear ratio is amazing! And I rocked them everywhere from the rows of Fashion Week to the beaches of Santa Monica.

This goes to show that just because you’re saving on cash, doesn’t mean you have to skimp on quality. I don’t know how well other Forever 21 items hold up {the jeans are the only things I’ve ever purchased}, but whatever this denim is made of, I need them to keep it up. I’m seriously dreading the day these bad boys rip. But hopefully that day won’t come any time soon.

And as soon as my Thrifty Threads challenge is over in October, I’m going to stock up on these F21 jeans. But hopefully before then I’ll find a few pairs at the thrift store!

Has anyone else experienced a pair of Forever 21 jeans that have stood the test of time? Or what’s your favorite affordable brand or item of clothing that’s lasted longer than a high end piece?

    I will second that motion on the F21 skinny jeans. I wear mine all the time and have had them for about 8 months. They have such nice stretch an have held up well.
    My item that I have had forever is my LL Bean parka. I bought it 15 years ago to wear to college to keep me warm when walking across campus during the Midwestern winters and it still wears well today!

    Right on. I, too, experience thigh/crotch rips in all my jeans, regardless of cost… EXCEPT my F21 skinnies! I’ve had the same pair of F21 skinnies for over 2 years and still, they are keeping up with my thunder thighs. You’ve reminded me to pick up another pair… just in case they change up the fabric.     I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of F21 jeans, but a couple of pair that I’ve owned that have lasted me awhile are Sears’ Apostrophe jeans and J.C. Penney’s City Streets brand. I’m going to have to check F21 jeans out–my problem is finding my size in the local store.

    Most of my jeans are actually Forever 21 and after reading this post I’ve realized how long they’ve lasted and have never failed me. They are always priced great so I definitely buy 2-3 when I buy them and just put them in a rotation. I share your sentiments :)

    Thank you for this post! I was thinking of writing a post just the other day called “why i’ve given up on designer denim” – like you I’ve tried them all. and my favorites are still my Forever 21 jeans! the fit is great and they last forever. i’ve gotten all my colored skinnies from forever 21 too. why pay $100-$200 for a bright hue i may not love in a couple months?

    YES YES YES! I bought two pairs at 10.00 each, a dark denim wash and the other was a medium wash with lots of stretch. They were my go to jeans, even for a night out and wore them at least once a week.

    About 3 weeks ago, the dreaded crotch rip happened =[  When did I buy them?  About  2 years ago! F21 overall has really poor quality but their jeans are definitely an exception and a pleasant surprise! Definitely stock up on them.

    I DEF know what you mean. I have a pair of Forever 21 Black highwaist jeans named.. the “Trusties” or “Dusty Trusties”. I’ve actually had them for probably 4-5 years. If it weren’t for gaining a couple (or dryer shrinkage is what I like to blame it on) I would wear them constantly lol. They fit great (did) and look great and I just can’t bring myself to get rid of them. Great Great Jeans!

    yes i purchased a pair for the very first time ever at a thrift here and they are awesome!  I am a petite and have a hard time finding jeans that fit and these skinny jeans are great!  they are a washed black with zippers on the small back pockets. I highly recommend!
