Essence Music Festival, State of Style For years I had been trying to make it to New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival. I always heard nothing but great things about the 3-day event and it’s always around my birthday. Last year, I finally made it to EMF and it was everything and more! Parties, great music, food and cheap alcohol, what’s not to love? And of course I’m heading back this year.

But if you haven’t booked your flight or hotel, you’re not totally out of luck. Using your sense of style can actually help you win round trip airfare for two, four night accommodations at a New Orleans hotel, two tickets for each night of the Essence Fest concerts {the lineup includes some of my faves, like Mint Condition, Emeli Sande and Beyonce}, two VIP Experience tickets and ground transportation.
Essence and State Farm are teaming up for the State of Style sweepstakes. From now until June 12, you can enter daily and it’s pretty easy.
  • Visit www.ESSENCE.com/StateofStyle, connect with Instagram, select one (1) Photo from your Instagram account, complete the online entry form in its entirety, and submit (the “Entry”).
  • Show your unique style by uploading a photo on Instagram using the designated hashtag #StateofStyle and enter for a chance to win a VIP trip to the 2013 ESSENCE Festival

Dressing for the hot and humid NOLA weather can be tricky but not impossible. Last year I went with lightweight dresses or flirty shorts for nights out.

And while pounding the pavement during the day {and eating crazy amounts of food at Acme Oyster House and Café Du Monde}, I kept it simple with a bright top, printed accessories and a loose skirts.

what to wear to new orleans, what to wear to essence fest Remember, you can enter the State of Style contest daily, so get to it. Hopefully you’ll win and I’ll see you down there. I’m hosting a fun event in NOLA, but more on that later.

Disclosure: Compensation was provided for this post but that did not affect my opinion {you already know this, but I just had to state it}.
