1 Dress Styled 10 Ways {How to Maximize Your Wardrobe}

I’m a creature of habit and if I have a garment I love, I wear it to death! What can I say? I like to get the most bang for my buck. So when glamour.com asked me to style one dress 10 different ways, I was up for the challenge. Though I can rock the same item repeatedly, I know how to rework it so it always looks fresh. And I take pride in making a “cheap” piece look like a million bucks. I mean, part of the title of my book is how to make the cheap look chic!

See how to styled a $12 Forever 21 dress a variety of ways and get inspired to remix your own wardrobe.

Thought I created 10 looks, I keep getting asked about two of them in particular.

Of course I had to incorporate my vintage Dior coat I thrifted late last year. Since the Forever 21 dress is neutral, it needed a serious injection of color. And if you watched my January Favorites video then you know I’m obsessed with Hanes’ Transparent Sheer stockings. They’re great for brown women who want nude hosiery. The shade I purchased had a bit of a sheen to it {a little too shiny for me, but great for making your legs look amazing from a distance and in photos!}, so I’m going to experiment with different hues to find the perfect match.

From a look that’s great for a night out to a casual style, I took the dress and made it into a shirt and paired it with some thrifted Hudson jeans. The question I keep getting is, how did you tuck the dress in to the pants without it looking bulky? Since the dress is pretty fitted and hits right above the knee, there isn’t a ton of excess material {compared to a maxi or a-line dress}. That made it easy to simply fold the dress {first in thirds and then folded again} and just tuck it like I would any normal shirt. The trick is to keep the folds as smooth as possible. You don’t want to look lumpy! And the addition of the vintage belt really holds everything in place.

I had so much fun putting all of these looks together! To see all 10 styles I created, check out the article on Glamour.com. I dish out style tips on each look. And please leave a comment on Glamour, I’d love to know which one{s} is your favorite.

    That was my first question-how did she tuck that dress in with no bulk? And that coat is gorgeous!
