Thrifty Threads: Layered Up for Winter

Thrifty Threads 365 is a fashion challenge where I will only thrift shop for an entire year. I’ll show you how it’s easy and wallet friendly to satisfy your style needs with secondhand finds. For full details, check the original post here.

Some days it feels like fall {hey sunny and 50 degrees!} and other days we’re in a deep freeze. That means deciding what to wear is super tricky. The easiest solution for getting dress on those in between days: layers! Layering can be tricky, because no one wants to look bulky. But all you really need is a few thin layers and a chunky knit you can easily remove if the day warms up.
Of course I had to rock a few of my affordable fashion finds on a fairly mild “winter” day in NYC.

When it’s chilly in the morning, but I know it’s going to get warmer, I typically reach for my thrifted Old Navy leather coat and a long, cozy Echo scarf. I’ve had this scarf for 5+ years and I wear it at least once a week every winter. It’s long {so I can wrap it several times} and has a bit of sparkle but the hue is still neutral enough to wear with any coat in my closet. And once again, I had to step into my leopard ShoeDazzle booties, last seen here. They’re a five inch stiletto platform but shockingly comfortable.
After the scarf and coat came off, I layered a faux leather vest over my Elie Tahari for Kohl’s New York skyline shirt. While some people tend to stay away from certain color combos, you can absolutely pair black and blue, as long as the colors are nice and vibrant, compared to a washed out black. I even have a t-shirt underneath for another layer of warmth.
My accessories were kept to a minimum and really just included a bar necklace from My Name Necklace. While I tend to love bold statement pieces, it’s nice to have a more subtle item. The company sent me the necklace and while I could have had it emblazoned with my name, I chose a phrase I’m increasingly trying to embrace. “Be still.”

How do you layer up when the weather is that annoying in between phase? Do you have a go-to sweater or scarf you rely on?

Loving those heals, girly! I would be afraid to pair them with that shade of blue but you rock it well! I’m inspired 🙂
