The little black dress is a wardrobe essential every woman needs in her closet. It’s simple, clean and the perfect slate that you can dress up or down. It’s such a multipurpose frock that goes from casual to chic in the blink of an eye or with the addition of a few accessories.

One of my favorite little black dresses is from TJ Maxx and was less than $20. During fall and winter I paired it with season appropriate gear like over the knee boots and a knit purse. But now that the weather is {finally!} warming up, I’m swapping out heavier materials for lighter airy fabrics and prints and accessories.

You can never go wrong with an oversized necklace. It becomes the centerpiece of any outfit and will distract people from the fact you’re wearing the same garment they’ve seen a million times. If a necklace like this Frugal Finds NYC multi-chain link is too loud for the workplace, rock a more subdued one during the day and slip this one on for after hour drinks.

I’ve amassed a ton of belts and 90 percent of them have been thrifted. They’re great at cinching the waist on oversized clothes and a way to break up the look of an all black outfit. This beaded belt I scored from my Swap Your Closet event has become a new favorite.

Of course handbags can’t be left out. A brightly colored purse looks great against the neutral hue and I also like a striped one like this cross body bag I raided from my aunt’s closet.

I also love rocking a funky pair of tights. Not only do they keep me protected from the chilly nights, they also add a fun element to an otherwise blah look.
