Thrifty Threads: How to Find the Perfect Jumpsuit

I’ve found a few jumpsuits I love but when I say a few, I really mean just a few. My problem is they’re too long for my 5’2″ frame, the waist is baggy but too fitted on my booty or numerous buttons make it a pain to get in and out of. Well, I finally found the perfect jumpsuit.

Let me back up. I didn’t actually buy a jumpsuit, I created one. And you can too with items you already have in your closet.

I wore this outfit over the weekend and several people complimented my cute black jumpsuit. Um, this is actually a halter top I thrifted years ago and Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s pants!

It’s quite simple to recreate your own jumpsuit-like style. Keep it monochromatic like I did or go for a color block effect. Either way, the look should be pretty sleek {no bulky tops tucked into your pants} and look as if it’s just one piece. And if you want to break the top and bottom up a bit, use a thin belt. I think that’s what I’ll do the next time I wear this look.

I added a bit of color with the help of my vintage purse and the jewelry just consisted of dainty midi rings {on my left hand} from Bling Jewelry. The company sent me these rings a month ago and I’ve been wearing them nonstop. The statement ring on my right hand was borrowed from my cousin.

And I finally stepped into my nude Michael Kors ankle strap sandals. I scored these last month at the Salvation Army and they were $12 or $13. That was the most “expensive” item I bought that day but every woman needs a pair of nude pumps and for me, these are them. I’m sure they’ll get tons of wear this summer!

Thrift Tip: if you find a garment or accessory that’s a bit more expensive than what you’d normally spend, don’t automatically pass it up. Consider a few factors: Is it a statement making head turner you know no one else will have? Is it something that’s been on your thrift wish list for a while? Do you know you’ll get serious wear out of it {jeans, outerwear, etc}? If you answered yes to any of the above, the price tag just might be worth it. It’s all about cost per wear ratio.

What’s the most expensive item you’ve ever thrifted? Have you ever created your own jumpsuit look?

I love your idea of creating your own jumpsuit! My problem is that I am too tall for an actual jumpsuit and it will look silly on me. Love!
