11 Jun Thrifty Threads: Layering for Summer
I know, it sounds weird. Who wants to layer in the summer? Shouldn’t the warmer weather be about taking off those layers? Well, sure, but a light layer can actually be the perfect finishing touch for your summer wardrobe.
I paired a few of my favorite thrift finds, fun accessories and shoes from a new-to-me brand for an easy summer look.
I’ve worn this thrifted jumpsuit before {it’s actually a part of my thrift shopping uniform}, but this time I dressed it up with layered necklaces and a vintage Clifford & Willis vest from the Salvation Army. While it’s pretty typical to wear a layer or two in the fall or winter, you can certainly do the same in the summer. Just think of a lightweight kimono, fringed or sleeveless vest to really top everything off. Besides being sleeveless, this vest also has high slits which make it pretty airy.
Since the jumpsuit is a pretty muted color, I had fun with my Target hat, a few necklaces and metallic high heel sandals from Machi Footwear. I’d never heard of this brand before they reached out to me, but I’m so glad I know about them now. Most styles average less than $50 and it’s full of colorful shoes that range from flats to sandals to high heels. The Lori sandal is perfect for summer with the metallic finish and colorful straps. You know I always say that if you’re afraid of wearing bright, in-your-face colors, just start small with shoes and accessories.
So a little layering this summer isn’t such a bad thing. Also, I had a small rip in the back of my jumpsuit, so I need a long top to cover it. Hey, do what you gotta do!
Do you layer clothing in the summer months? What’s your most recent thrift store find?
