23 Jul Thrifty Threads: Dressing Up Basic Cutoffs
A few years ago I did a post entitled I Hate My Legs. I hated the way they looked in shorts. Not in dresses, but just shorts, which I felt highlighted my short, stumpy stems and chubby knees.
It’s totally natural to have a body part that isn’t exactly your favorite asset. Well, fast forward a few years and I’m proudly showing serious leg in a pair of DIY cutoffs.
While a pair of shorts may never be my favorite look {I prefer dresses and skinny jeans!}, I’ve been wearing them a lot lately.
Instead of going for a super casual look, I dressed up these Siwi jeans, that were thrifted from Goodwill for $1, with metallic Nine West heels and a silky kimono.
My California Love Tupac tank is from a recent Salvation Army trip and the floral kimono is courtesy of Family Dollar’s Just Be…collection {see my video review of the Family Dollar clothing line}.
And if you’re looking to DIY your own pair of cutoff jeans {it’s much cheaper than buying them ready made!}, YouTube is full of tutorials. It’s really as simple as making a few cuts and removing threads.
On a beauty note: The Body Shop’s Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil is my new go-to for summer. It adds a light sheen, evens out your skin and makes your legs look amazing.
Fashion should be fun! So try dressing up a piece you’d normally wear in a casual way. Or embrace a body part or article of clothing you once loathed. It’s safe to say I now love my legs!
Do you have a body part or specific garments you shy away from? How’d you learn to embrace it?
