Thrifty Threads 365: Take Your Bodycon Dress from Day to Night

Thrifty Threads 365 is a fashion challenge where I will only thrift shop for an entire year. I’ll show you how it’s easy and wallet friendly to satisfy your style needs with secondhand finds. For full details, check the original post here
Let me start off by saying I’m not the biggest fan of bodycon dresses. They just feel too va-va-voom for me, but I found a printed H&M bodycon dress I couldn’t resist. The simple black and white print and one shoulder batwing sleeve was enough to make me snatch it up when I found it at Housing Works Buy the Bag.
At less than $1, I figured it couldn’t turn to give this style a try and I’m so glad I did. Though bodycon dresses can feel a bit sexy, they’re easy to take from day to night.
For my day look, I kept it simple with a worn denim jacket, pair of pink Converse sneakers, bracelets from mark and a favorite flea market find, an elephant purse I scored during the Essence Music Festival. Sneakers automatically make any look more relaxed. I’d definitely wear this to a weekend brunch, a day at the flea market or for running errands.
But for night time, it’s all about turning up the heat. Black and white is perfect for adding pops of color, but I wanted to keep the B&W look going, so I rocked my W118 by Walter Baker jacket {one of my final purchases from Loehmann’s} and Luciano Padovan booties I scored from the Salvation Army. Additions of a Frugal Finds NYC layered necklace and sparkly Miss Selfridge clutch rounded out the accessories.
I might have to rethink giving the bodycon dress a chance.
One of the things I really love about thrift shopping is it’s a great way to embrace styles and trends you would normally never wear. Would I buy a $100 bodycon dress? Nope! But I’d certainly buy one for a buck and give it a whirl. Thrifting isn’t just about saving a dollar, it’s a perfect way to step out of your comfort zone.
Have you tried any new trends thanks to items you’ve thrifted? How do you style bodycon dresses for day and/or night?
