03 May Thriftspiration: Casual Chic Co-Ed Style

Why do you thrift shop?
I am a full-time college student at a local university, and I grew up as a casual thrifter but it probably wasn’t until I started college that I realized I could not only save money by thrifting, but I could make some money, too.

What do you wear while thrift shopping?
I like to wear flats that I can easily slip off to try on shoes. I do not like bringing a big purse because it gets in the way, so I will often shop with a small cross-body purse instead. If I am unsure if the store will have a dressing room, I wear slim-fitting pants and a shirt with a tank top.

What reactions do you get after telling people your outfit is thrifted?
There is the occasional look of disdain, but most people are shocked or even jealous. I often get comments like, “How do you find all this stuff?” or “You have to take me with you when you go thrift shopping!”

What tips would you give to new thrifters?
I list lots of tips on my blog. One thing to remember is that the more places and more often you shop, the more likely you are to get those awesome scores you are looking for. Every thrift store and location is different, and their inventory and prices reflect that. I suggest viewing thrift shopping as a treasure hunt: look for a score, but don’t have a specific shopping list.

Posted at 09:30h, 03 MayCute! And I agree, you have to go back thrift shopping a few times to find great stuff. People think you can just go one time and then have an amazing score. Sometimes that happens, but the more you go, the more likely you are to find good items.
