17 Feb What’s In Store – Target’s Universal Thread Collection {why everyone’s loving it!}
Earlier this month, Target, my beloved bullseye boutique debuted a new collection and it’s kind of a big deal. I mean, who doesn’t love Target?! But this line in particular was a really exciting venture because per usual, it’s affordable, but more importantly, every garment in the collection goes up to a size 26 {versus just some items being plus}. Also, there’s a heavy focus on denim, which is an item most women find difficult to shop for {check out Fitting Room Tips to Find the Best Jeans…after you’re done reading this!}.
Of course it was my civic fashion duty to check out the Universal Thread line in person, try on pieces and report back the absolute pros and a few cons. Here’s another What’s In Store.
The major draw to Target’s Universal Thread line is the variety of jeans. I counted six different cuts for the shorts alone! They range from high rise midi to mid-rise midi to boyfriend midi. And the full length jeans have even more variety. Don’t get me wrong, I love having a wide range of denim options, but at times it felt a bit overwhelming. Like, what’s the exact difference? However, the in store displays had signage that broke down the cuts, which was helpful.
As for the sizing, I was beyond ecstatic to see the jeans were true to size. I’m typically a six in Target jeans and that’s the size I wore in this collection. There was just the right amount of stretch and no gaping at the waist. And then I tried on the jeggings: the only cut that was a bit of a struggle. These were suuuuuuuper tight. I could barely get my foot through the leg opening. But after a bit of wiggling, I slipped into them and actually loved the fit. Quick denim tip: it’s totally okay to buy your jeans really snug because they’re going to stretch out over time with wear and washing.
Though the jeans fit true to size, I wanted to see if other items were just as true. So I also tried on a dress and jumpsuit, size medium and small, respectively. I was blah about the dress, but the striped jumpsuit was a winner. Though I’m normally a medium, this small had a bit of give. Can’t you just see this for a cute date night or relaxed weekend? The jumpsuit was such a versatile piece {though I’d wear it with a different belt!}.
While I loved most of the line, I found the majority of the shirts to be a bit boring. There were a few cute peasant-style tops, but the majority were basic tanks and tees. Nothing wrong with that, but if you’re expecting unique designs or work appropriate tops, this isn’t it. But if you need a few solid color tank tops or striped short sleeve t-shirts, then you’ll score!

I knew the line also had a fair share of accessories. My Target location didn’t have many on display, but I did stumble upon a few cute bags, including this tote which would be perfect for work and a fun circle crossbody bag and chic backpack. There were also adorable and pretty sturdy looking weekender bags for $40. These were the most expensive items I saw.
If you’re in Target, I would highly suggest checking out the Universal Thread line. Between the true to size fit, great prices and inclusive 0-26 size options, it gets the thumbs up.
