I previously posted about my love of Forever 21 jeans {they're still going strong after 3+ years without the dreaded crotch rip!}, but while shopping at TJ Maxx last week, I found a pair of jeans that are just as affordable and fit like a glove.Here's how the typical jean shopping scenario goes for me: find several pairs I love, they fit at the hips and thighs, but they're gaping at the waist!I'm on the petite side {5'2} but like most gals, I've got a little bit of hips, thighs and behind. And there's at least a 10 inch difference between my waist and hips, which makes finding jeans tough. But it turns out my luck changed with a pair of $16 skinnies by the brand Jalate.

Housing Works warehouse saleEarlier this week I showed you my recent Housing Works haul from the Buy the Bag sale. But I found so many goodies {63 pieces for $50 equals less than 80 cents for each item}, I had to split the post up over two days. I gave you a glimpse at the awesome coats and tops I nabbed {including a St. John cardigan} and now it's time for the bottoms.

My style definitely leans more towards dresses, flirty skirts and even casual skinny jeans, and I found all of the aforementioned.Peep what I walked away with.

Are thrift stores too expensive
Maybe it's a product of living in NYC, or maybe this is something others are noticing in their cities, but it seems {some} thrift stores are becoming a bit more expensive, no?
The price tag above was for a dress at Goodwill. It was a pretty basic label and nothing fancy, so I was baffled at the $20 price tag. Really, $20 for a secondhand dress? For that price, you can get a frock from Forever 21 or the clearance rack at some stores.
Of course most secondhand garments don't fall in to this category, but I have noticed the occasional steep price tag. I typically chalk it up to the price you pay for thrifting in NYC but I've also seen some double take-worthy prices in other cities.

I'm a little more than half way through my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge and people always ask if I miss shopping for brand new clothes. And I usually say no. Thrift stores have provided me with every item, whether it's trendy or classic, that I need. But there are some things I've been missing: Forever 21 jeans. I can walk past Macy's, H&M or any boutique with no problem, but Forever 21 tempts me every time. Let me explain...

As much as I love a flirty dress, I adore skinny jeans, especially black ones. They're a simple canvas you can dress up or down in minutes. And since I love jeans so much, I've worn them in a ton of brands, from Seven to Citizens of Humanity to Joe's and more. But I find they all share the same characteristic: the dreaded crotch rip. You know what I'm talking about. It's when your jeans start to rip and get frayed from the friction of your thighs.

During my first Adventures in Thrifting last weekend, we dipped in to Forever 21 after we hit up three thrift stores. Since I'm on my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge and can't shop for clothing, I immediately went to the beauty section.

I was immediately struck by a bottle of sparkly purple polish. And after reading the label, I realized it was a heat activated polish that changes color. How cute! At only $2.80, I grabbed a bottle of Mood Struck.

The sticker on top of the bottle shows the purple and light lavender hues the polish changes to.
