looking fly on a dime, style guide

Remember when I Instagrammed this dress last year? It was Free People {a brand I love} and majorly discounted at TJ Maxx. I knew I'd get tons of wear out of the fitted, printed dress. A dress like this can easily be saucy with a high heel or a bit more casual. Now that the temps are dipping again, I'm back to rocking the Free People dress. And this time around, I decided to keep the frock pretty casual thanks to a few add-ons like accessories and a cable knit top.

Flat boot for fall, fall fashion Last week, Dianna from the Budget Babe Instagrammed the photo above and I was absolutely baffled. She totally co-signed a trend I'm noticing more and more. Um, when did Payless start charging $60 for shoes? I can kinda sorta understand that price tag for a designer collaboration, but a basic pair of boots. At Payless. For $59.99?!
I remember when I was a kid and my mom used to buy my shoes from Payless because the store was affordable. But now, have they lost that budget friendly appeal?

Nicki Minaj Kmart collection
A few weeks ago, I Instagrammed the photo above of Nicki Minaj's Kmart collection. Needless to say, the response wasn't too favorable. While some loved the dress, others couldn't get behind the other looks. Well, yesterday I had an opportunity to preview the majority of the line, which hits stores later this month, and I'm so glad I did.
First things first, this Nicki Minaj for Kmart collection is definitely geared toward the singer's Barbz and reflects her personal style of fitted, in-your-face prints and hues. But the preview gave me a broader picture of the line. And surprisingly, quite a few of the garments are wearable for women of all styles.

tj maxx website

The fashion gods have answered our prayers: TJ Maxx has finally launched an e-commerce site. The affordable chain was once only for those lucky enough to have a store in their area, but now, every budget lover can get her hands on affordable fashion and discounted designer finds.Check out a few of my favorite fall pieces below and why shopping online might be a better experience than visiting the actual store.

closet revamp, looking fly on a dimeSix denim shirts. 12 blazers. 20 pairs of jeans. These were some of the clothes I pulled out of my closet last weekend. Needless to say, I don't need six denim shirts, 12 blazers or 20 pairs of jeans. I realized I was suffering from a pretty common dilemma: an overstuffed closet where I buy the same items multiple times because I didn't realize I already owned them.
Sigh.
With fall unofficially here and officially arriving in a few weeks, I took two hours this weekend to get my closet together. And luckily, there were only two major steps involved. Not only will this revamped closet make it easier to get dressed, it also benefits the wallet. When your closet is clutter free, you know what you have, which means you won't spend money buying duplicates.
