09 Apr The Must-Have Spring Outerwear You Can Find at Any Thrift Shop
Spring is here!!! Sorry for the exclamation marks but after a dreadful winter, I’m happy there are no more mounds of snow or blistering wind chills.
When it comes to the new season, a new or new-to-you {i.e. thrifted!} coat is a must. If there’s one piece of spring outerwear you plan to cop, let it be a trench. It’s wearable for all occasions and flattering for every figure. Oh, and you can find one at most, if not all, thrift shops. Here’s how to do it!
Since trench coats are a classic garment in most women’s wardrobe, they’re at your local thrift store. I scored this Laundry by Shelli Segal trench from the Housing Works Buy the Bag sale about two or three years ago and I wear it every season.
If you plan to thrift a must-have trench, here are some tips:
Shop the Men’s Section
Depending on your size and options available, you might be able to thrift a trench from the men’s department. Just make sure the proportions don’t swallow you up.

Swap Out the Belt
Belts are such an underutilized, yet awesome accessory! Cinch the waist with one of your favorites. Have fun and swap them out depending on your mood or outfit. The coat below didn’t come with a belt, so I just added my own.

Go for Bold Colors, Textures or Details
While a double breasted trench in a neutral tone is a no-brainer, why not have fun with other colors? And since you’re thrifting it, you can afford to try something different. Maybe a candy apple red or patent leather trench catches your eye. Or it could be a bold collar and edgy grommets. The trench I chose has leather trim pockets and a peplum design. Bottom line: have fun!

And one final styling tip: make sure the sleeves on your trench coat aren’t too snug. On days when the temps are a bit chilly, you might want to layer a chunky sweater, so give yourself some room for layering.
Have you ever thrifted an awesome trench coat? How did you style it? What other spring garments do you always find at the thrift shop?

Posted at 22:28h, 18 AprilI just found a cute Eddie Bauer trench coat!!! Should I launder myself or take to cleaners to have cleaned and treated? I might get in a few wears before it gets too warm? Love your blog and I’m so ready to see the bags!

Posted at 14:25h, 20 AprilThanks so much, I’ll be sharing more details about the bags soon.
What material is the trench? I would say follow the care label that’s in the coat and if it states “dry clean only,” certainly adhere to that.
