27 Jun So You’ve Cleaned Out Your Closet and Have Nothing Left to Wear…
The process of cleaning out your closet can feel daunting and I know so many people who avoid doing so because they feel they’ll be left with nothing to wear.
But let me tell you, that’s a good thing!
It’s always tricky determining what to keep or toss in your closet and I won’t lie to you, depending on how many clothes you have, it can take a while. When I did my massive clothes, shoes and accessories purge, it was a weekend full of work. But it really was worth it because it helped me define my personal style.
However, what do you do when you’ve gone through the clean out process and now you have a bare bones closet?
You can freak out and think you made a huge mistake by trashing or donating clothes or you can realize that this is a perfect style space for you to be in.
This gives you a clean slate to start building your new wardrobe from scratch. And not just any wardrobe, but the wardrobe you actually love and need. You’ll start to see which basics you thought you had but you really don’t, which trends you might want to try and shop for pieces that fit your current lifestyle {shape, occupation, weekend activities, etc.}.
Also, with less options, you may start to notice you wear a few things over and over because you love them so much. This just tells you what direction your style skews towards and you can buy more items like that and wear what truly makes you feel good. I have a pair of Denizen jeans that I wear at least once a week. They fit perfectly and go from day to night. So there was no need for me to feel sad about the other six or seven pairs of jeans I donated.
Finally, let me just state that even when you think you have “nothing” in your closet, you still have a ton. So just give yourself time to adapt to a lighter wardrobe. And after a while you’ll come to appreciate the fact that your closet isn’t as cramped. With more space on your racks and in your drawers, you’ll be able to access things much faster, which means you can get dressed with ease.

So don’t let the fear of an “empty” closet keep you from taking that important step to clean out your closet. It’s well worth the time, effort and isn’t as scary as it seems.
Have you recently cleaned out your closet? Did the sight of a lighter closet scare you?

Posted at 13:43h, 27 JulyI just cleaned out my closet on Sunday, and I have greatly reduced what I have to wear, and I’ll admit, I did freak out a little! But what you’ve said made me think–now I can wear those pieces I really enjoy, and I’m sure I won’t miss the things I got rid of. Great thoughts!

Yeah, that freak out feeling, is totally normal.
But like you said, now you can focus on the things you really love. It’s been months since I did my first major closet clean out and I don’t miss or even remember the clothes I got rid of!
