30 Sep #MaxxLife – Combining Fashion & Home Decor with TJ Maxx
Last week I attended an event that combined my two loves: fashion and home decor. TJ Maxx launched their latest campaign, Maxx Life, and costume designer Jenn Rogien {Girls, Orange is the New Black, etc.} dished on how to tell the story of who your are via what you wear and how you decorate your living space.
At this interactive event, we were given a character narrative and then had to create a full look for our woman to wear as well as decorate a bookshelf that represented our girl’s overall aesthetic. Our home and style needs were met with finds from TJ Maxx!
For the event, my partner and I had to create a look for “The Adventurer,” who was carefree, athletic, on the go and innovative. We put together a wardrobe that included booties, pants with leather accents, a low-cut draped top and printed jacket. For our character’s “shelfie” we styled a book shelf in her home that would include neutrals with a few pops of color and quirky odds and ends.
I’ve always felt that your home should just be a continuation of your personal style. My aesthetic leans more toward girly, cutesy and with a hint of glam, so my apartment includes tons of candles {TJ Maxx always has affordable, yummy smelling candles!}, decorative trays, a fire engine red couch and leopard chairs.
Costume designer Jenn Rogien takes into account every aspect of her characters lives when she’s creating a look that really speaks to who the character is or was. When it comes to decorating your home {or body}, I loved Jenn’s advice that you should:
Let Your Life Lead Your Style: let interests, passions and aspirations shine through when creating an outfit or look in the home.
Whether someone’s looking at your ensemble for the day or visiting your home, they should be able to get hints of who you are or at least how you’re feeling that day.
Here are a few TJ Maxx home decor pieces I’m loving at the moment and that are currently in store. From furniture to decorative accents, TJ Maxx is a must visit if you’re decorating on a dime.
How do you decorate on a budget? What’s the best home item you’ve found at TJ Maxx so far?
