25 Jul How a Last Minute Trip to TJ Maxx Saved the Day
I pride myself on being prepared. At all times. Also, I enjoy a good theme party and go all out for one. So imagine how shocked I was when I had a 007 theme party to go to and nothing to wear??? If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you know a few weeks ago I went to Club Getaway, which is an adult summer camp. Yes, it was as amazing as it sounds. Tons of leisure time, thrilling activities, parties, food and more. And because we’re adults, there were drinks.
But I totally didn’t realize the theme for Saturday night’s party was 007. I missed that email. I had a black romper I packed with me so I guess I could have made that work, but I was so ticked off I wouldn’t have a great ‘fit.
And then the heavens opened up!
Throughout the weekend, we befriended one of the camp employees and when he told us he was heading in to town to go to TJ Maxx, we were all in! Turns out one of the other employees needed an outfit for the night as well, so he was driving her. We happily tagged along. And as fate would have it, I had a TJ Maxx gift card in my wallet.
I mean, come on, this was meant to be!
Though I’m pretty used to my local TJ’s, this one was in a small town in Connecticut, so I had no idea what I’d find. But when I tell you I found a dress for the night’s festivities plus a few other pieces? And the prices were amazing? Scores all around.
The first item I stumbled upon was a little black dress on clearance for $10. It was simple, lightweight and the knotting and ruching at the straps made it perfect. And the low cut style was a bit saucy and very 007-worthy. I should have bought a few accessories to jazz it up, but instead I just decided to do my hair in an updo and let me colorful scarf be the only accessory I needed.
One tip I have for dressing for a theme party: pick an overall theme word.
Or maybe even two words. I’ve never even seen a James Bond movie {crazy, I know!}, but when I think of 007, the words that come to mind are sleek and sexy. Those words helped me determine the look I was going for.
Though I could have stopped shopping once I found the LBD, I kept casually leafing through the racks and found two other pieces that were so perfect I wanted to wear them that night!
The first was a cobalt blue maxi dress that fit me like a glove. If I wasn’t worried about the long hem dragging on the camp grounds, I would have totally worn it during the party. But I bought the dress anyway for another perfect occasion. This was just $17. The length is maybe an inch too long if I wear flats, but I’ll just use one of my handy hacks to shorten a maxi dress.
And then came my jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are always tricky for me. I’m short, but I have a long torso, so they’re no exactly ideal.
But this baby? She was made for me. Between the color, the cut and the belt detail, I was head over heels. This was the most expensive piece: $20.
I brought three items into the fitting room with me and all three were a hit. I feel like that never happens! In total, I spend just under $50.

No, this wasn’t a TJ Maxx in a major city, but the location was organized, there were tons of deals and the clothes were hot! Also, when we came out, I noticed there was a Goodwill location right across the street. I’m gonna have to go back for some thrifting and another TJ trip!
