08 Oct Cubicle Chic: 3 Office Appropriate Ways To Wear Leather
Leather is probably one of the most fun trends for fall. Traditionally, it’s a difficult fabric to wear in professional settings. But this season, leather and leather trim have been added to a number of office appropriate pieces. Of course it’s still important to follow a few key rules when wearing leather to work: nothing too short, too tight and avoid a head-to-toe look.
In this week’s Cubicle Chic, here are three different ways to style leather for the office. We promise you won’t channel a dominatrix!
Blouse / Pants / Earrings / Bag / Shoes
If you want to start off slowly, use leather as an accent. These Jessica Simpson pants {less than $50!} have a faux leather waistband that acts as a built in belt. Counter the leather with a flirty lace blouse and coordinating tote bag from Aldo. The colors, fabric and silhouette of the outfit are completely office appropriate, while just a sliver of leather kicks it up a notch.
Blouse / Skirt / Necklace / Earrings / Bag / Shoes
Leather may be thought of as a darker fabric, but turn that assumption on its head and try rocking a khaki colored leather skirt from River Island. Its classic silhouette and color make it ideal for even the most conservative work place. Add a neutral top and leather trimmed handbag, but give this simple look a funky twist with Apt. 9 leopard pumps from Kohl’s.
Cardigan / Shirt / Pants / Earrings / Bag / Shoes
And finally, what’s the fun of leather if you can’t go a bit edgy, right? The leather trim on this H&M knit cardigan definitely ups the cool factor. Play with color and rock a deep red t-shirt under the cardi. Mix in work friendly trousers with geometric hoops and exposed zipper accessories like this Forever 21 handbag and peep toe ankle boots.
Do you wear leather to work or do you think the fabric is too va-va-voom? How do you style it in a fairly conservative way?
