08 Jan Thrifty Threads: Mixing Prints and Textures
If you’ve been a steady Looking Fly on a Dime reader, then you probably know I love the combination of fur and leather. For a recent outfit I paired two of my thrift faves {Old Navy leather jacket and H&M fur collar} on a day that was chilly but not frigid.
And I kept the thrift love going with a little black and white action. Mixing prints can be tricky, but I have an effortless solution for that!
Seriously, I love this leather and fur combo so much I wore this exactly a year ago for my first Thrifty Threads 365 post in 2014. Adding some texture prevents your look from being too flat or even harsh. You can do the same with a silk scarf and trench or cable knit scarf and peacoat.
From a distance, it kinda looks like I’m simply wearing a black and white printed dress. However, it’s actually two separate pieces, a shirt and skirt. I’ve had the skirt for a while and the shirt is Armani, which I scored during my last thrift shopping party at Housing Works Buy the Bag.
Do you find mixing prints to be tricky? Just start with two black and white garments {abstract, stripes, polka dots, etc.}. The colors are exactly the same with both pieces, so it creates an effortlessly chic and cohesive look!
How do you mix prints? Are you into mixing textures and layering scarves over your favorite coat?
