09 Mar Style Equation: Layering Your Button Down & Sweater
It looks like spring might finally be on its way {yay to 50 degree temps in NYC this week!}. Though we tend to layer up during winter, this also continues throughout spring. With chilly mornings and semi-warm afternoons, we still need a few layers to stay warm but also amp up the style factor.
This week’s Style Equation is all about layering a button down and sweater for an effortless spring look.
These photos were originally shot for my glamour.com feature where I styled a Forever 21 dress 10 ways. I specifically loved this look because it’s an easy way to keep it casual in a bodycon dress. The sequin sweater is from my grandmother’s closet and the striped button down is a thrifted Zara men’s shirt.
If the button down would have been too baggy and oversized, it would look bulky under the sweater. And if the sweater would have been too long or have a high neck, the button down would go unnoticed and totally overshadowed. Instead, the hem and collar of the Zara shirt is on display and compliments the sequin sweater.

Whether you plan to layer a chunky sweater, button down or a vest, always remember to keep the proportions in mind so each piece is showcased and your figure is flattered.
Do you have any favorite layering tips? How do you plan to layer your favorite garments this season?
