A few days ago I made another appearance on Essence Now, Essence magazine’s weekly digital show. Last year I showed affordable style options to decode your holiday party dress code. But this time around it was still holiday related, but all about gift baskets.
While you can buy a ready made gift basket, there’s nothing better than creating a custom DIY gift basket. One that’s really tailored to the person and the things they want or even need.
I had less than a week to put this segment together and that meant finding useful, but fun and interesting products that anyone would love to receive. I created four different baskets: for the co-worker, new home owner, new boyfriend and new parents. And of course all of the products were less than $50 each.
Once I found the actual products, I knew I wanted cute baskets to place the products in. Because any gift is about presentation, right?! The baskets came from one of my fave stores, Marshalls. You never know what you’ll find when you go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx but they always have cute home items like baskets. And they ranged from wire style baskets to wooden-like crates. The only one that didn’t come from Marshalls was the star-shaped wicker basket. It’s actually mine and I thrifted it about three or four years ago. Thrift shops are also a perfect resource for home decor {check this out: home decor items you can thrift}.
Not to toot my own horn, but everyone on set really loved the products. I wanted to make sure the picks were thoughtful, useful and ranged from the usual to the I-didn’t-know-that-product-existed-but-I-need-it.
