27 Aug The number 1 way to dress on trend in the workplace
If there’s a question I get often, it’s “how do I dress stylish but still work appropriate?” I totally understand it. Well, kinda. I’ve always worked in a creative industry, so it’s no out of the ordinary for colleagues to wear jeans, shorts and the latest trends to the office. But I completely understand that’s not everyone’s situation.
However, even if you work in the strictest of offices, it’s absolutely possible to dress on trend and be cubicle chic. Hopefully you already have your work wardrobe essentials, but the tip below is specifically if you want to incorporate the latest and hottest trends…without being reported to HR.
And exactly how do you dress stylishly for the work place? It all boils down to one rule. Yup, just one simple thing to keep in mind.
Take the trend and pair it with a classic
That’s it! Okay, let me break that down a bit more. It just means trend + classic cut {blazer, a-line skirt, trench coat, blouse, etc.} = work ready
A huge trend for fall is 80s everything. I’m talking bold shoulders and shoulder pads, in your face neon and asymmetrical jackets. While you don’t want to dress like you’re an extra from Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, you can take this trend and turn it classic. This can mean a bold shoulder blazer {blazer = classic work wardrobe piece!} with a pencil skirt. Or try a small pair of neon earrings to add a punch to your boardroom attire.
It’s all about those little details and trends but incorporated the classic cuts and pieces everyone feels is universally accepted in the workplace.

Another example can include leather. Yes, once again it’s a “trend,” even though it’s a classic material. See the leather shorts below? Yeah, I wouldn’t wear those to work!
But a leather vest in a casual work place? Sure!
While a head to toe leather outfit wouldn’t be recommended, you can absolutely incorporate accents like leather panels on a trench coat, black patent leather heels that go with absolutely everything or even a leather headband.

Also, I know a lot of people feel intimidated by wearing bright colors in the workplace. It just feels too in-your-face and like you’re attracting attention to yourself. But if you really love color, try a few bright accessories {they’re still bold, but in small doses!} or inject color with your outerwear. This way you get your color fix but you won’t be wearing the vibrant hue all day.
So regardless of the trend, you can wear it in the office and not receive any complaints from HR! Your style should be fun and a reflection of your style, whether you’re at work or relaxing on the weekend.

Posted at 08:23h, 29 AugustI love this idea! I always feel like I’d dress way different if I didn’t work in corporate. Do you have photos to share the examples?

Posted at 20:24h, 31 AugustThanks! The above photos are examples of how I’d incorporate leather into the office (the don’t: wearing shorts, versus the do of a leather vest or accent) and the bright red coat is another example off adding color

Posted at 02:07h, 04 SeptemberYou cant just wear anything you want in your workplace or office as office is meant to be a place where there are some decorum which has to be followed strictly. But your outfits can be easily worn at offices

Posted at 09:23h, 04 SeptemberExactly, offices, just like other places, have attire that’s appropriate and that’s not.

Posted at 01:32h, 04 DecemberI loved your ideas to incorporate leather shorts and a jacket in one’s office attire! It is important that we follow general guidelines while dressing for work. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t follow the latest trends or make a personal style statement. Pairing a blazer with classy pants is a great choice for the office. And, don’t forget to add a statement accessory to your attire, such as a classy handbag or belt.
