10 Dec Thrifty Threads: Distressed Denim & Layering for a Mild Winter
If you’re like me and make weekly trips to Target, the name Denizen should ring a bell. They have tons of jeans that are broken down my style and cut and they’re less than 30 bucks. I previously fell in love with their boot cut jeans {see them here} and the company sent me a pair of curvy skinny jeans to try out.
Within a week of the jeans arriving, I wore them on three different occasions. My biggest issue has always been a gaping waist band but the Denizen curvy skinny jeans hugged me everywhere without being constricting.
The jeans were great as is, but I wanted to distress them a bit and made a few tears at the knees. I might go back and add a few rips to the upper thigh. Distressing jeans is super easy. I showed my Snapchat crew {follow along @PatriceJWill} the process of distressing these, so hopefully you caught it. If not, check out this YouTube video. I used this same technique to distress all my jeans!
And the tops consisted of thrift store finds: a wool sweater and chambray shirt from the men’s department. Layering is all about proportions, so the shirt falls several inches below the sweater. The black and white leather jacket was my last purchase from Loehmann’s before they closed their Chelsea location. The zippers adds a bit of edge and fun. I was pretty toasty but I’d swap the jacket out for a heavy weight coat once winter really hits.
For accessories, I rocked pointy toe pumps I thrifted at least five or six years ago. And the bag is a cheap chic find from Payless, first seen here.
Though the heels make the look a bit dressier, you can definitely swap them out for flats or slip-on sneakers for a day of errands.
You can find the Denizen jeans here and Target currently has a buy one, get one 50 percent off for most clothing. That’s a deal!
What style of jeans do you love the most? Have you ever tried Denizen denim?
