My Thrifty Threads 365 challenge is 10 months down with two more months to go.For all of 2014, I've solely relied on clothes and accessories from the thrift shop. I haven't spent a single penny on new threads. Oh, and I have a $50 thrift shopping budget each month.

As much as I have a "passion for fashion," sometimes I just don't know what to wear and hate getting dressed. No seriously, when I'm working from home, I'm in leggings and a t-shirt. But on days when I actually have to leave the house, I rely on my go-to style combos. These are the pieces I know I can throw together in minutes and they'll look great. It's that time of year again. The epic Salvation Army coat sale has returned to New York. The first sale of the season was last month, but the next one is this Saturday, November 1.
Not familiar with the coat sale? Well, it's the place you need to be if you're in the tri-state area and need to score serious deals on furs {real and faux}, leathers, bombers, trenches and more. Most coats average $20, so of course the competition is stiff. At past sales I've found vintage leather jackets, a mink and a few wool coats and never paid more than $15 for each. I even scored a DSquared parka for $2. Yes, 2 bucks for a coat that was originally close to $1000 {see my receipt below}.

I first debuted it on Instagram and I knew I had to have it. At $10, it's one fifth of my monthly Thrifty Threads 365 shopping budget, but like I said, I had to have it! It's a maxi, pleated and solid gold. What's not to love?!When it comes to such a bold piece, it's easy to think, "how will I wear this?" Well, I kept the rest of my look minimal and let the skirt steal the show.

When it's chilly out, but I still want to wear a dress and no tights, a long skirt is my go-to fashion choice. I purchased this Calvin Klein skirt a few months ago for less than $10 and it's safe to say I'm in love with her. I first wore the skirt during Fashion Week. Back then I paired it with a vintage crop top, but this time around I wanted a more conservative look for church. But of course I had to throw in a sporty jacket to mix it up.
