looking fly on a dime, what i wore
It's no secret that I love anything fun, flirty and feminine. But the tricky part about wearing a super feminine piece, particularly tulle, is making sure you don't look like a four year old playing dress up. So when Kohl's sent over this LC Lauren Conrad Tulle Maxi Skirt {available mid November}, I had two thoughts. 1. I'm in love!!!! 2. What am I going to wear it with?!
It was actually quite easy to style this piece. I just whipped out a few wardrobe staples {blouse, chic earrings, bold purse} and a nice layering piece like a vest. And of course, everything was thrifted for just a few bucks.

season to thrift shop, time of year to thrift shop

This weekend I continued my fall closet clean out and that included dropping off a huge bag of clothes and accessories to Goodwill.I have a large wicker basket from Home Goods that I purchased for $7 and every few months I add clothes to be donated. Well, it was finally time to drop them off and pass along the great secondhand karma, because as much as I thrift, it's important for me to give back. And I know there are tons of other people dropping off major donations as well. This is actually one of the best season's to thrift shop.

looking fly on a dime style guide

Fall is in full swing and it's been pretty cold on the east coast. While I'm not ready to whip out my winter coat, I'm all about layering fun fall pieces. And my idea of fun involved a rugged leather jacket and a faux fur vest {both thrifted!}. They're from the Goodwill Outlet {$1.69/pound of clothing}.Jackets with leather sleeves are super trendy and instead of going out and buying one, I decided to layer my vest over the leather jacket. Some people actually thought it was a one piece and asked me where I got my fur jacket with leather sleeves.

thrift shopping tips, thrift shops in smaller city
Living in New York City means I have access to amazing thrift stores. There's even a strip of secondhand shops on East 23rd Street where I had one of my last thrift shopping tours. You really can't beat having seven day access to finding potential thrift store scores.
But what about people who don't live in major cities? Well, you're not out of luck. And I actually like thrift shopping in a quaint town. Here are 3 reason I prefer thrift shopping in a small town.

thrift shopping furniture, thrift shopping for furniture

Last week I made my way to the Salvation Army and did a little browsing. I was surprised to see it was packed in the middle of the day. Seriously, I've never seen the line that long on a weekday. But I guess everyone wanted to take advantage of the 50 percent off family sale they have every Wednesday.
After not finding anything great {but I can't say I really looked that hard}, I made my way to the third floor. One thing I really love about this location is the furniture selection. The entire upstairs is devoted to furniture and home decor {and there's even a nice book selection}.
Check out what I found during my trip and a few tips on how to thrift shop for furniture.
