It's that time of year again. The epic Salvation Army coat sale has returned to New York. The first sale of the season was last month, but the next one is this Saturday, November 1.
Not familiar with the coat sale? Well, it's the place you need to be if you're in the tri-state area and need to score serious deals on furs {real and faux}, leathers, bombers, trenches and more. Most coats average $20, so of course the competition is stiff. At past sales I've found vintage leather jackets, a mink and a few wool coats and never paid more than $15 for each. I even scored a DSquared parka for $2. Yes, 2 bucks for a coat that was originally close to $1000 {see my receipt below}.
If you plan to attend the Salvation Army {536 West 46th Street} coat sale, here's what you need to know. Even if you're not in NYC, you can use these tips when thrift shopping for winter coats.

Thrifty Threads 365 is a fashion challenge where I will only thrift shop for an entire year. I’ll show you how it’s easy and wallet friendly to satisfy your style needs with secondhand finds. For full details, check the original post here.thrifty-threads-365-looking-fly-on-a-dime-thrift-styleRemember this vintage gold maxi skirt I thrifted a few weeks ago? I first debuted it on Instagram and I knew I had to have it. At $10, it's one fifth of my monthly Thrifty Threads 365 shopping budget, but like I said, I had to have it! It's a maxi, pleated and solid gold. What's not to love?!When it comes to such a bold piece, it's easy to think, "how will I wear this?" Well, I kept the rest of my look minimal and let the skirt steal the show.

I have to admit I'm not much of a Halloween person, but I do appreciate the creativity that people put into their costumes! But let's face it, there's some serious pressure when it comes to finding the perfect getup. Instead of buying a packaged Halloween costume, why not hit the thrift shop? While my everyday looks come from the thrift shop {I'm still doing my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge and ONLY thrifting for a full year}, secondhand stores are also the perfect resource for any homemade costume due to the unique items you can find.
Check out 5 thrift store Halloween costumes that are affordable, unique and when October 31 is over, you can still wear these pieces! Each costume requires less than five items and you can find them at any thrift shop.

You remember those vintage suitcases I bought for $5 at a garage sale this summer?
Until now I've used them to prop up my book cover frame, but this weekend I decided to switch it up a bit. In last week's Links to Save By, I showed you decorating ideas using suitcases and I was inspired by one of the projects.
My new way of decorating with my vintage cases takes up minimal space and even doubles as storage. Oh, and it took just minutes to do.
