Looking Fly on a Dime on Nate Berkus show

Hopefully by now you guys caught my second appearance on The Nate Berkus Show {I'll post a link soon for those who may have missed it}.For those who saw the program, you asked what stores I went to for the $25 makeovers and the thrifted designer looks. Of course I went to my favorite stores in NYC: Salvation Army on West 46th St, Goodwill on East 23rd St. and Buffalo Exchange on West 26th St. The $1 Gucci top I found was from the Goodwill Outlet where clothing is just $1.69 per pound. And the next question you wanted to know was what I wore and how I snagged an Armani blazer for 83 cents.

Looking Fly on a Dime on Nate Berkus show A few weeks ago I announced on Twitter and Facebook that I was asked to come back to The Nate Berkus Show. Well, the show airs this Friday, November 11.

I was beyond excited when the producers asked me to return. When I first appeared on the show in September {view a clip from my first appearance here}, I recreated designer looks with thrifted finds and gave three women a $25 fashion makeover. And this time around...I'm doing the same thing! And this time around...I stumped the audience again. They couldn't tell which look was high end and which came from the local thrift store. One designer outfit retailed for close to $1,500 and I thrifted a nearly identical look for just 30 bucks!

A few weeks ago I showed you guys the awesome pieces I found at the Housing Works Buy the Bag sale. I fit 30 items of clothing in a bag for just $25, so that was less than $1 per piece of clothing. And last week I showed you how I put together a Thrifty Threads outfit with pieces from the sale. The sale I went to last month was initially the last one of the year, but the great folks at Housing Works added a few more...

Housing Works Buy the bag, thrift store haul

This past Saturday was the Housing Works Buy the Bag {$25 for all you can stuff in a bag) sale and as usual, I racked up. I met a few of you there and it seems everyone walked away with a bag {or two} full of goodies. As usual, it was crowded inside, clothes were everywhere and the crowd got a bit rowdy when additional bins were put on the sales floor, but the majority of people were super sweet. I didn't take pics inside {I was too busy shopping}, but the clothes were eventually pulled out of the bins and everyone was walking over the garments and one woman even lost her shoe in the clothing avalanche.I managed to stuff a total of 30 items in my bag, so at $25 for a bag, that averages out to 83 cents per piece. Considering I found some vintage items, including Armani, I'd say that's a thrift store score. This sale always has a ton of blazers and I snagged with six of them. A bit excessive, I know.
