thrifty threads, looking fly on a dime

Since I put my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge on hiatus, I've had a few people ask if I've had a chance to shop for new clothes. Like I wrote in a previous post, though I gave up buying anything new for a full year, I didn't feel like I was being deprived of anything, so I didn't have a serious urge to shop for anything non-thrift store related. But I finally changed that last week.
My first purchase was two pairs of earrings from H&M. None of the clothes caught my eye too hard {I'm waiting for the Maison Martin Margiela collection}, but I had to have these earrings. The turquoise pair have a vintage-y feel and the disco ball ones are fun and flashy, just my style.

Salvation Army 46th st
It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the Housing Works Buy the Bag sale, that's been put on hold until further notice. But it's the return of the Salvation Army coat sale at the 46th Street location.
I first went to this sale two years ago and it's become my go to sale for amazing outerwear. If you're not familiar with the sale, they open up their donation and loading dock area and convert it into a space that's full of jackets, coats and vests for everyone in the family. And they've even had a few purses and shoes for sale.
At the previous sales I attended, I walked away with everything from a leather jacket to a wool coat with faux fur collar. During one trip, I scored five coats for $36. Don't believe me? Check out my last haul here.

If you're a serious thrifter like me, then a good portion of your wardrobe comes from thrift and vintage stores, eBay, flea markets, etc. Not only can you create a unique style by rocking secondhand threads, but now, you can even earn some serious cash.I first learned about Thrift Store Runway earlier this year when they contacted me about being a judge. Judge what, you ask?The site is a virtual fashion show for those who love to thrift. Thrifters submit their best Thrifty Threads outfits and the winner can receive up to $500.

If you guys like my Facebook fan page {closing in on 4,000 fan, thanks!} or follow me on Instagram {@LookingFlyonaDime}, then the title of the post should come as no surprise to you. But...I'll be appearing on a segment for The Today Show. I can't tell you how excited I am. The segment airs live {eek} on Tuesday, October 9 during the 9am hour of the show.
This opportunity actually came about after I appeared on The Nate Berkus Show throughout last season.

Looking Fly on a Dime thrifty threads 365Can you believe it's been a year already?! Exactly one year ago today, I started phase two of my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge, a full year where I only buy secondhand clothes and spend $50 or less per month. For the past year, I've shown you my Thrifty Thread outfits as well as a tally of how much I've spent each month.
For the month of September, I spent....zero dollars! Seriously, I didn't spend a penny on clothes or accessories last month. I've been way too busy with work to shop {woe is me!}. Oh, and I'm prepping for The Today Show next week {but more on that in a few days}.
And over the past year, I only spent $460 on clothes. Yup, an entire year's wardrobe for less than 500 bucks.
And with that $460, I've snagged some great pieces...
