looking fly on a dime thrift store

On Wednesday I did what I haven't done in about a month: I went to the Salvation Army for some serious shopping. The last time I went, the inventory was weak and I left empty handed, but this time around, the thrift gods must have been shining down on me. The Salvation Army at 46th Street is usually my go-to destination for dresses and an occasional vintage gem, especially sequin tops and button downs. And that's exactly what I found on Wednesday.* I kept pulling one amazing piece after another. *Remember, the Salvation Army has Family Day sales on Wednesday, so most clothes and accessories are 50 percent off.*My total damage was $85. Yes, $85!! But this was ok for a few reasons. 1. I haven't been thrifting in months {shocking, right?}. 2. The items were literally worth hundreds. One dress alone would have originally retailed for $300.

As you can see from above, I've been feeling sweatshirts over the past year. From Mickey to my basic gray sweatshirt {less than $1 at Salv Army}, I love a good sweatshirt. And if you've been paying attention to what's trendy, you know sweatshirts are having a serious moment. Suddenly, they're chic and in vogue. They're no longer just the sloppy shirt you wear to the gym or on a lazy Saturday.
If you're looking to get in on the trend, here's how you can score a sweatshirt from your local secondhand shop and ways to style them, including a few DIY options.

affordable jewelry, looking fly on a dime
Icing is known for its affordable jewelry and accessories. And Monopoly is the game we all played as a kid {next to Uno, Monopoly was my fave!}. Well, now the two have come together and created a fun collection just in time for the holiday season.
Icing's Monopoly collection just debuted and as expected, it's cute, affordable and perfect for someone who loves a little sparkle.

looking fly on a dime, what i wore
It's no secret that I love anything fun, flirty and feminine. But the tricky part about wearing a super feminine piece, particularly tulle, is making sure you don't look like a four year old playing dress up. So when Kohl's sent over this LC Lauren Conrad Tulle Maxi Skirt {available mid November}, I had two thoughts. 1. I'm in love!!!! 2. What am I going to wear it with?!
It was actually quite easy to style this piece. I just whipped out a few wardrobe staples {blouse, chic earrings, bold purse} and a nice layering piece like a vest. And of course, everything was thrifted for just a few bucks.

home savvy madame noire, madame noire home savvy
I'm a huge fan of the show Scandal. And if you follow me on Twitter, then you know I live tweet the show every week. So I was so excited when we filmed an Olivia Pope related episode for Home Savvy.
We love Liv's style, but her apartment is also amazing. She keeps her space neutral with a few dashes of color and chic, detailed elements. Whenever she's having a sip {or full bottle!} of wine, I always find myself looking at the background in her apartment.
Well, in the latest episode of Madame Noire's Home Savvy, I show you how to duplicate the look and feel of Olivia Pope's apartment using lights. Yes, something as simple as lighting can update any living space.
