19 May Thrifty Threads: The Awesome $10 Vintage Dress That’s More Than Meets the Eye
I’m all for trying “tricky trends” or unique garments, but this vintage dress I recently purchased was the trickiest of them all. But wait, it’s not even a dress!
I thrifted this “dress” last month and immediately feel in love…after I figured out how to wear it.
Remember Mobile Vintage? That’s the Brooklyn shop where everything is $10 and they serve drinks! This interesting garment was one of my purchases.
It was initially the color that caught my eye and then I noticed the front was totally open and secured with two long white ties. I was sold. Turns out I was wearing it backwards. It’s a maxi style shirt with an open back.
Such a bold piece required little styling, other than my go-to skinny jeans and colorful shoes {last seen here} that peek from under the hem. And a few chunky bangles I’ve thrifted over the years.
Though I love the piece, I’m seriously considering having a tailor shorten it to around knee length, I think that will make it even more wearable with other garments in my closet and better suited for my 5’2″ stature.
I’m glad I tried something a little different and had fun playing dress up! Because isn’t that what style should be about?! And again, since it was just 10 bucks, I was really willing to take a risk without investing major cash.
Have you ever thrifted something out of your style comfort zone?
