Beauty on a Dime: Shea Moisture Olive & Green Tea Products

natural hair care I rarely post beauty reviews and on the site {I typically leave brief recommendations for Instagram: @LookingFlyonaDime} but I had to change that up for a few reasons. I had a few of you comment on the mega bun I rocked during my last Today Show fashion segment. Some said it looked super moisturized and others just wanted to know how I managed to make it so big. I followed an easy tutorial on essence.com for the look. But as far as products, it was all about the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

My hair is ultra dry but I’ve been using the smoothie for a while now on freshly washed hair or parched locs that need some extra TLC. It makes my hair manageable and sleek enough to put in a bun.

While I’m a serious Shea Moisture convert when it comes to hair products {their Moisture Retention Shampoo and Deep Treatment Masque is also great}, it was only recently that I tried their body products.
Just like my hair, my skin is dry, especially in the colder months {the skin on my face is naturally oily but the rest of my body is like the Sahara}. So I was excited to try the company’s Olive & Green Tea line. I had the triple combo of the Olive & Green Tea Lotion, Body Scrub and Bath, Body and Massage Oil. At approximately $10 each, the products are full of shea and olive oil, green tea and avocado, which help heal and moisturize. And they’re free of parabens, mineral oil and sulfates. Oh, and they’re not tested on animals!

Shea Moisture Olive and Green Tea, body lotion The smell immediately sucked me in. It’s fragrant but not overpowering. But the true test came when I used them. The Olive & Green Tea Body Scrub is great at exfoliating but isn’t too abrasive on the skin. I followed the scrub with the Bath, Body and Massage Oil while my skin was still moist and then topped it off with the lotion.

I ran in to a bit of a problem with the lotion though. The stuff was so thick I had to unscrew the top and squeeze it out the bottle because it couldn’t fit through the small opening. But luckily, the thickness didn’t equal being greasy. My skin instantly sucked up the creamy, rich product.

olive and green tea lotion, dry skin remedy I was left with super soft skin that didn’t feel dry or get ashy later in the day. I like using the products together but even when I’ve used them separately, the results are still great.

And Shea Moisture recently came out with a line of hair dye that’s free of ammonia and sulfates. I’m considering switching up my look for spring so one of the 12 hair colors might be in my near future.

Check Shea Moisture’s website for more product info, items range from scrubs, soap, hair cream, waxing and baby care remedies. They can be purchased from a variety of places, including Target, CVS and Walgreens.

Have you guys tried any Shea Moisture hair or body products? What are your favorite items?

Disclosure: Shea Moisture sent me body products but I was under no obligation to review and of course the free products did not influence my review.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been using the same shampoo as well as the Curl Enhancing smoothie for sometime now. I added olive oil to my smoothie for extra moisture. I think they just came out with a line for kids and a co-wash. Love the hairstyles you do..always chic..such an inspiration. :))
