Fab Fit Frugal, fab fit and frugal

Looking fly isn't just about what you wear. Of course that's a big part of it, but looking and feeling good from head to toe goes deeper than the garments you throw on.There have been times I've worn some of the freshest clothes, but I felt like crap. Sometimes it was due to a lack of sleep, stress and/or a horrible diet. However, when I give my body what she needs, I can feel the difference on the inside and others can see it on the outside. That's why I'm starting Fab, Fit and Frugal. Every week I'll offer easy to digest tips and tricks to keep your body running on all cylinders, and of course, nothing will be expensive or time consuming.Fab, Fit and Frugal will include:

how to thrift shop, thrift shopping tips

Thrift stores have come a long way. They're no longer the musky, moth ball ridden places {some of them were} from back in the day. I even wrote a piece for The New York Times on how thrift shopping has gone upscale. In addition to cleaner stores and sales, more stores are offering different ways to purchase clothes other than being sold by the piece. I'm talking about stores where you buy by the pound or bag {like Housing Works Buy the Bag or the Goodwill Outlet}. These are the places I like to go when I really want my buck to stretch. However, these places can be really intimidating since the locations tend to be in massive warehouses and clothes are stored in large bins. But when you have the right tips, you can walk away with clothes that cost less than a buck per piece.

top moments at essence music fest

If you're not familiar with Essence Music Festival or you've never attended the 3-day event, you should change that ASAP. The New Orleans based festival has been going down for 19 years and by day it's home to empowering seminars and by night, features some of the world's top musical acts.I had the pleasure of attending EMF last week {my second year in a row} and in between hosting my Best Dressed Madame event and stuffing my face {try the chargrilled oysters at  Acme Oyster House and share a platter of fried seafood at Deanie's}, I took in shows, a few events and even got in a bit of shopping. Take a peek at my top 5 Essence Fest moments, including stellar performances that blew me away and how I scored a unique purse for just $20.

essence music fest beauty suitesThough most people associate Essence Music Festival with music and the amazing food of New Orleans, there were quite a few beauty events going on. So many beauty soirees went down that I almost didn't have enough room in my suitcase. The pic below shows how jam packed my bag was of goodies I scored from some of my favorite brands. My luggage weighed in at 47.5 pounds and undoubtedly, half of that was hair and body products. And of course all of the products are super affordable.

Essence Music Festival fashion event

Yesterday I gave you the inside dish on the vintage dress I wore to my Best Dressed Madame soiree while I was at Essence Music Festival in New Orleans and now it's time for the event recap. The night was full of fun, giveaways and some amazing costumes. Hosted at May Baily's Bar at the Dauphine Hotel, we took a cue from the past to come up with some cheeky games. The bar used to be a brothel {they still have a red light on outside!} so we asked ladies to come dressed up in feathers, boas, glam gowns or anything that made them feel sexy.
