02 Sep 5 Fall Fashion Trends You Can Find at Your Thrift Shop
While we have 20 days until the official start of fall, Labor Day pretty much marks the end of summer. The end of the season means it’s time to swap out your summer dresses for chunkier knits and layered pieces.
Instead of investing serious money in your fall wardrobe, you can just hit the thrift store. Check out 5 fashion trends you can find at your local thrift shop. These must-haves were huge on the runway, but you can score the look for less.
60s Mod Minis
A-line dresses and skirts are universally flattering. And the runway showed us tons of minis reminiscent of the mod 60s. This is such a classic cut you can find in the aisles of your local thrift or vintage shop. If the length is too short for you, pair the mini with leggings and cute flats.
Chunky Knits
Fall is the perfect time to bundle up, so it’s no surprise chunky knits are everywhere. From a turtleneck to a sweater dress, these goods should be in abundance at a thrift shop. One of the tips I include in my book, Looking Fly on a Dime: How to Find Fabulous Fashion at Any Thrift Shop & Make the Cheap Look Chic, is to shop other sections. The men’s department has really great sweaters that will look chic on any woman.
Emerald Green
Let’s face it, emerald can be a tough color to pull off. But with tricky trends, ease your way in and experiment on the cheap. See what options your secondhand shop has to offer, including cute secretary blouses, pants and more. The great thing about a hue like emerald green is it won’t be hard to spot.
Menswear
Another tricky trend is menswear. It’s still going strong for fall and it can actually be quite feminine. Most thrift stores will have two-piece suits or jacket and pant separates. Balance a boxy suit jacket out with a skinny bottom and roll the cuff of a pair of trousers for a more relaxed vibe.
Psychedelic Prints
Tribal prints and leopard are timeless patterns, but this season it’s all about the trippy psychedelic prints. If there’s one thing you can find at a thrift shop, it’s funky, off the wall patterns. You might find some that toe the line between cute and fugly, but have fun and give them a chance.
What fall trends are you stocking up on? Have you found any of the above fashion trends at your thrift shop?
