Vintage Spotlight: Brooklyn Bleu

Some people think vintage has to equal super expensive and I have to admit, I was one of those people. I stumbled upon Brooklyn Bleu while reading In Her Shoes and just knew I had to check it out. The boutique is by appointment only so I thought, oh no, there’s no way I can afford this stuff. I was so wrong.

Last Friday I made my way to Brooklyn for an appointment with Tenisha Light-Caba, she owns the boutique with her twin sister. The shop is on the second floor of a renovated brownstone and words can’t even describe how posh it is. The lace and silk curtains, custom closets, super comfy chaise lounge made me feel like I stepped in my dream closet. {Seriously, I have pics on my vision board of what I want my closet to look like and this is pretty close to it}.

After being amazed by the decor {Tenisha worked with designers for months to create the cozy space}, my friend and I started playing dress up. We wrapped ourselves in jumpsuits, girly frocks and furs. Of course I had to sneak a peek at the prices and they were all reasonable. One of a kind jewels and dresses from the 50s and 60s were comparable to prices you’d see at Zara, Topshop or Macys, but you don’t have to worry about seeing anyone else with the same pieces.

Besides the prices, beautiful threads and stunning decor, I absolutely loved the shop owner, Tenisha, and not just because she supplied us with wine and fruit, which she does for all of her clients. This woman knows her vintage inside and out. If I asked her about a garment, she knew the era and gave me the rundown on the material and even suggested ways to wear it with my existing modern pieces. And if you’re new to vintage shopping, she’s the perfect person to assist you.

Of course I don’t want to keep the awesomeness of Brooklyn Bleu to myself, so for all of my NYC ladies, the boutique is having a shopping event called Fall into Vintage. It’s this Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30pm and you’re invited. Tenisha’s giving all Looking Fly on a Dime readers a special gift for attending. And I’ll certainly be there early in the evening, so be sure to say hi!

Visiting Brooklyn Bleu is by appointment only, so drop Tenisha a line
([email protected]) and let her know you want to swing by.

How fun! Have a great time, and once again I’m jealous that I live in boring Ohio where nothing significant happens!

Some accessories are as low as $10-15 and dresses range from around $40 to $120 or so.
