Thrifty Threads: Vintage Jumpsuit Glam

You ever feel like you were born in the wrong decade? That’s how I felt when I found this gem of a jumpsuit. Why couldn’t I wear this amazing garment to party at Studio 54?!

Oh well, that era has passed, but I can still rock this cobalt blue jumpsuit now. And to think, I almost passed on this $5 beauty!

My mom and I occasionally head to the Salvation Army on Wednesday for their half off day. During a visit last month I found this jumpsuit. It was pretty hard to miss due to the bright hue. But I soon noticed there were a few stains on the leg. I seriously debated whether I should buy it. My mom encouraged me to. I felt I shouldn’t because you never know how long stains have been set in, especially on vintage clothes.

But, I decided why not? And man, am I glad I did because I was able to get the stains out {just placed it in the washing machine on delicate!}.

The v-neck. The ruching. The waist panel. Just everything about this vintage jumpsuit speaks to me.

A bold piece like this needs little in the accessories department, so I kept it simple with a necklace I bought in Belize and vintage pointy toe pumps, also from the Salvation Army.

While I typically tell people to think twice before thrifting stained clothing, sometimes you just need to take a chance and hope for the best. But I would only do this for a garment that’s just a few bucks and has limited stains.

Have you ever thrifted a stained item and successfully cleaned it? How do you incorporate vintage clothing into your modern wardrobe?

Whoa. $5 and a little bit of delicate cleaning? You scored huge on this one. I love the vintage vibe you’re rocking here – totally Studio 54 indeed! (Don’t you wish that all came back? You’d be the utmost of stylin’ with this look) Love it. And yes, I’ve found that set in stains from thrifting are not easy, but with a little love and coaxing, my vintage thriting finds are my favorite go-to pieces!

That piece is awesome! Here is a hint (I sound like Heloise here) I thrift frequently and have been disappointed with stains or tears I didn’t notice when trying on. Dimly lit dressing rooms make it hard to see what might be “lurking” on your new found treasure. Now, if I want something after I try it on, I take the garment to a well lit area in the store or to the window to examine it carefully, holding it up to the light. It has saved me the disappointment later and like you, if I see a stain I can decide if the risk is worth the price.

Yes, that’s a great tip! I always suggest seeing everything in the sunlight to get the true view.
