The One Piece to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe to Fall {Find it At Your Local Thrift Shop!}

The One Piece to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe to Fall {Find it At Your Local Thrift Shop!} Late summer/early fall can be a tricky time to get dressed. It’s still hot, but maybe there’s a breeze or maybe you want to start slowly transitioning to wearing more clothes without feeling too constricted.

That’s where the duster comes in. And you can find one at any thrift shop!

Let’s back up for a second. Exactly what is a duster? Some people call them long vests or even robes. But basically it’s a full length, light weight open front jacket. Sometimes it has sleeves and sometimes not! But what’s undeniable is it’s power to transition your look from summer to fall.

Over the past two years I’ve found quite a few dusters at thrift shops. And even before I started buying them, I always noticed them on the racks but never knew how to wear them.

The One Piece to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe to Fall {Find it At Your Local Thrift Shop!} These are great over your favorite pair of jeans, a fitted dress, shorts, cut offs or pretty much anything. And if it has sleeves then it’s ideal for a night out, as the temps will drop.

And as mentioned above, you can find these on the thrift racks. Check in the dresses section or even lounge wear. Sometimes the sales associates don’t know where to classify them so they can really be anywhere in the women’s section. But thanks to their longer length, that makes them a bit easier to spot. If the clothes are on racks and you see a garment that’s hanging a bit longer than the rest, you may have found a duster!

Nothing haunts us like the vintage we didn't buy. Regretting leaving this animal print beauty behind. D'oh!

Dusters can look a bit frumpy sometimes when you just see them hanging on the rack, but take the time to envision how it can look best on you. You may just find a winner.

*and stay tuned for a fun shoot I did with BuzzFeed. I styled a duster in an unexpected way.*

Have you ever thrifted a duster? What’s your go-to piece for transitioning to fall?

    I did it! I thrifted a duster! I found a sheer one in black with a tan pattern on it. It will go with everything! I have been on the lookout for one since I saw this post. You know what I love about it is that the previous owner put two safety pins in the back to draw in the waist. I am going to stitch where the safety pins are but I am grateful someone showed me how to make this gorgeous piece even more flattering.

      Yay, so glad you found an awesome duster. It really is a must have.

      And the previous owner was awesome for doing that! These safety pins are the perfect guide for you.
