Tis the Season…to Thrift Shop

There are only a few days left before we close out 2010 and this is the time to hurry to your local thrift store. The end of the year always offers tons of inventory and a great selection of items.

Many people drop off tons of donations before the end of the fiscal year so they can get a tax write off. When you drop off your unwanted items, the store clerk gives you a receipt which can then be counted towards a charitable donation. I dropped off two bags of clothing to my local Goodwill and the bin was overflowing with donations. Also, if you have furniture you no longer want or need, many locations will pick the items up for you.

With the holidays over, folks are making room for their new finds. If someone received a new television, they may get rid of the old one or if a fashionista’s closet is overflowing, she might just head to the local Goodwill to drop off her designer duds. This is the prime time to take advantage of people cleaning out their closet, all while adding some new-to-you pieces to your closet.

Whatever reason someone may have for dropping off donations, you’re bound to find some great deals on everything from clothing to electronics to furniture.

The stores are looking to get rid of the merchandise so be sure to keep an eye out for post holiday/beginning of the year sales. Sign up for Goodwill, Salvation Army or your local thrift stores newsletter and/or follow them on Twitter for last minute sales.

Excellent advice. You read my mind. I just donated several large bags to my local Goodwill, and plan to scout out Goodwills in a more “upscale” area in hopes of finding goodies other than my own! Ha. That tends to be my problem at my Goodwill–I constantly stumble across things that I donated!

Great minds obviously think alike 🙂
Hitting up upscale areas is always a great thrifting tactic!
