Thrifty Threads: Vintage in The Big Easy

thrifty threads, thrifty threads 365

Two weeks ago, I celebrated my birthday at the Essence Music Festival. If you don’t know about EMF or if you’ve never been, you need to change that ASAP. It’s obviously a music fest, but it’s so much more. It’s a gathering of folks who are ready to experience food, fun, day and night parties and any other foolishness New Orleans has to offer. It was hands down one of the best trips I’ve been on and I plan to attend next year.

But anyway, back to fashion…packing is always an issue, but for this trip it was especially tough. I needed items that were casual enough for the day {and the humid temps} but threads that were also party appropriate for any events I decided to hit up.

I had to attend a Carol’s Daughter event and my vintage, tulip dress was perfect. I’m not a huge fan of the color green, but I’m a fan of this dress. It was less than 10 bucks at the Salvation Army and it fit me perfectly. Can you believe I had it in my closet for about a year before I finally wore it?!

Green and gold are always a cute combo so I added in a belt, also from the Salv Army and kept the accessories simple: just some flea market earrings and bangles and t-strap sandals courtesy of a clothes swap.

Stay tuned for a few more outfit posts from my Essence trip, including a post on how I styled a pair of lace shorts that I had been dying to wear, but was clueless on how to make them work.

Week 41 of my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge {a full year where I only buy second-hand clothing} is down. Only 11 more weeks to go!

I’ve only lost about 2 pounds, but I’m tightening and toning with my NY Lean 25 workouts. Down a few inches!

    Hi,
I saw you on TV Thur. 7/19 on PIX around 5pm.   I loved he info you gave about thrift shops and used furniture, clothes etc.   You gave a couple of website addresses, but I didn’t have a chance to write them down.   I’m looking at your website here and don’t see them.   What were they?  Thanks   p.s. you look great

Thanks! But I don’t do hair posts, maybe an occasional beauty post (which I haven’t done in years though).
