Thrifty Threads – Shoulder Pads & Plaid

Here’s my confession: I hate my shoulders. I know, I know, that’s a weird body part to hate but I feel they’re too wide for my small frame. It’s weird, I know. But lately I’ve been finding a lot of great sweaters and jackets with built in pads or puffy shoulders. These would clearly be the nemesis to someone who thinks she has linebacker shoulders, but not so! I’ve become obsessed with bold shoulders and I no longer take the pads out of shirts and sweaters (unless they’re way too 80s-ish).

A great example of this is the peach sweater I recently found at the Salvation Army. Besides the soft girly hue, the ruffled collar and puffy shoulders caught my eye. Hmm, does this mean I’ve gotten over my shoulder issues?

With such a bulky sweater I had to balance my look out with dark skinny jeans and a pair of plaid heels, also from Salvation Army.

I kept my jewelry simple (mostly because I was running late for work). My bunny ring from Urban Outfitters is such a fun piece and I doubled up with a simple ring that actually came with a bottle of perfume. My earrings are the gold and turquoise beaded hoops I wore last week.

Breakdown:
Sweater: thrifted for $3.50
Tank: Express, thrifted for 50 cents
Jeans: Forever 21, $12
Shoes: Charlotte Russe, thrifted for $7
Bunny ring: Urban Outfitters, $5

Week 18 of my Thrifty Threads 365 challenge (a full year where I only buy second-hand clothing) is down. Only 34 more weeks to go!
