Thrifty Threads: Remixing Your Favorite Pieces

After doing a massive closet purge and clean out about two years ago {I ditched a fourth of my wardrobe!}, I realized a few things: I had too much stuff I never wore and I actually like wearing the same pieces over and over.

When it comes to the latter, I’m totally fine with that. I know what I love, what works for my body type, my lifestyle and what just makes me smile every time I wear it. And for me, that means red. It’s my power color and I totally didn’t realize this until after I completed the Try It, Wear It, Love It style challenge.

And if you want to pare your wardrobe down a bit or mix and match what you already have, it’s totally easy to do.

LookingFlyonaDimeThriftyThreads Wearing the same thing over and over might sound like a bad thing, but it’s totally not. It seriously just means you know what you like and love. And furthermore, it’s possible to wear things over and over but not *look* like you’re recycling the exact same look.

You see this outfit below? Does it look familiar?

If so, that’s because I wore the same tights, boots and leather jacket in this previous post. But with a white turtleneck dress.

For me, it’s all about the base or your foundation. I loved creating a look around these Forever 21 rose gold boots. To say that I’m obsessed with them would be an understatement. They’re fly and comfortable {a great combo!} and I’ve had these window panel style tights for years and just rediscovered them {I’ve had them so long I don’t remember the brand, but Hue typically has similar styles}. And of course that Lulu’s vegan leather moto jacket. Again, my happy place is red.

So keeping those elements as the base, I topped the look off with my vintage Mickey Mouse sweatshirt and added a bit of texture with a corduroy mini skirt. I also added a large vintage bag, which you can see here on my Instagram.

Remixing pieces doesn’t have to look or even feel boring. It doesn’t mean dressing like it’s Groundhog Day or like a cartoon character {i.e. wearing the same look every single day}.

Have fun, switch it up, but always wear what makes you smile.
