Thrifty Threads: Rainy Day Chic

Thrifty Threads 365 is a fashion challenge where I will only thrift shop for an entire year. I’ll show you how it’s easy and wallet friendly to satisfy your style needs with secondhand finds. For full details check the original post here
Earlier this week the East coast finally had a respite from the massive inches of snow,  but then it began to rain. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take rain over snow, but both elements can really put a damper on your style game and especially your footwear.
Luckily I have a few go-to looks and boots for snowy, slushy and/or rainy days. When I need to put the heels away but don’t want a clunky wellies, I step into my zigzag vintage boots I scored for less than $10 from the Salvation Army.
New York Fashion Week just ended and I was literally shaking my head at some women who rocked 5 inch {open toe!} stilettos during a blizzard. Let me tell you something, you can still look cute in a seasonally appropriate outfit.
Besides the right footwear, a few fun accessories and outerwear are all you need. I continued the thrifted theme by wearing my red coat and vintage clutch, both from Housing Works Buy the Bag. And my nails even got in on the action, as I applied my Revlon by Marchesa jewel appliqués.
The only item I wore that wasn’t thrifted was my statement necklace from Prima Donna {similar style here} and a polka dot umbrella from TJ Maxx.
The rest of my look was also thrifted, with an oversized collar A-line LBD for $7 {similar style here}, tortoise shell belt and a fire engine red shirt.
One of the things I really love about thrifting, besides the prices, is the unique items you can find. I’ve never seen boots like the ones I scored or an intricately designed and handmade clutch for less than $1.
When mother nature gives you rain or snow, just step in to some funky boots and twirl!

    HI!!! (newbie here)
Um, yeah. Everytime I saw women during NYFW sporting shoes that didn’t work in that snowy weather, I was all :-O ???? There are so many closed shoe and boot options, come on! Smh.
I agree with you … put your boots on and twirl!!! LOL.
By the way, can you sugest some great thrift store for me where I can find shoes in size 11? Ugh! That’s always my issue. I’m in NY and I usually go to a few but I’m not so lucky.
Also …. take me thrifting with you pleeeeeease! LOL.
    Never hurts to ask right?

      Hi Gabrielle,
      Welcome!
I don’t know specific shops that have size 11 shoes, but you just have to look around and visit a variety of shops. I’ve blogged a few times about my fave places in NYC (just use the search function in the sidebar to find them). And I host private and group tours. You can email me for private tours and I’ll resume the group tours in March.

This is one of my favorite outfits you have done. I love the red coat and like how you turned a sleeveless dress into appropriate winter wear

Just discovered your blog and I am in love with your personal style!! I absolutely love the challenge you’re doing (and have done) with only thrifting. I have strongly considered doing the same thing but I have to admit…a whole year seems a little bit scary!!
Now following you and can’t wait to see more outfits!! =)
